It’s not as if a lot of those students were getting any use out of them anyway. You can lead a horse to water...

Of course they would never consider cutting the administration.

You could eliminate 90% of the costs of school district administration and not miss a beat.

“But opponents say the closures will disproportionately affect minority children and endanger students who may have to cross gang boundaries to attend school.”

Then tell Rham to do something about the gangs. What a concept....

As long as they pay the retired people what is the problem?

When you promise unicorns and candy to voters today that does not have to be paid by them this is what you get.

Their funding gap is due to promises made decades ago to voters who care not for any one except themselves.

If students today have to suffer who cares?

Just make sure administrators get 100% of their retirement benefits.

"Our parents know about this area," she said. "They don't know about those other areas. If they send him way north or way south, I'm not going to do that. It's too dangerous."

The kids could encounter a Tea Party partisan with an assault rifle and be scandalized....

What a heartless racist!

Eventually you run out of others people’s money.

No money for schools but plenty for retirements and to pay people not to work.

Rahm wasn’t even in Chicago when news of the school closings was released. He’s skiing in Utah.

When one has to figure out gang boundaries to figure out how to manage the schools......it’s over. Shut it down and start from scratch.

Rahm Emanuel say the closures are necessary because too many CPS buildings are half-empty. The nation's third-largest district, CPS has about 403,000 students but has seats for more than 500,000, officials say

403,000/500,000*100 = 80.6%. That's quite a leap to round to one half. A whole is closer.

Every child in every neighborhood in Chicago deserves access to a high quality education

No. First of all, where is that written? Second, not every child is educable or can function inside a school. But most importantly education costs money. Money has to come from people that work. Work is an expenditure of a persons time and energy. Its literally a person's life. Nobody has any rightful claim on anyone else's life or what they produce. Forcing someone to work for the benefit of others with compensation is slavery. Its the worst form of tyranny.

Saying it's "for the children" is a lame excuse and it doesn't even apply in this case since the last thing that goes on inside a Chicago Public School is anything that resembles the molding of future productive, contributing members of society.
