WASHINGTON -- Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) gave a full-throated endorsement on Tuesday for comprehensive immigration reform that would allow undocumented immigrants to become citizens but not expand the employment verification system, putting him at odds with members of his party.

But Paul differs from many Republicans, and some Democrats, on employment verification. Paul singled out E-Verify, an already-existing federal effort to check employment status. It's considered necessary by many to ensure businesses aren't hiring workers they shouldn't, but it's also criticized as cumbersome for employers and too likely to give false positives that would keep citizens and legal immigrant workers from being hired.
"My plan will not, though -- and this is where I disagree with some in the bipartisan group -- impose a national ID card," he said. "It will also not have mandatory E-Verify. I don't mind if there's E-Verify, maybe related to the tax code somehow, but I don't like the idea of making every business owner a policeman."

If Paul thinks he will get their votes, he will be disappointed. Look what happened to Sen. J. McCain. He called illegal aliens "God's Children" and practically went on his knees to the radical Hispanic groups, and they still voted for B. Hussein Obama.
A more recent article with Paul trying to defend his ‘amnesty’... He says:
““I’ve got a news flash for those who want to call people names on amnesty: What we have now is de facto amnesty,” Paul replied. “We have 11 million people here that have been here — some of them for a decade or more. No one is telling them to go home. … So I would say if you want to work, we’ll find a place for you”
So according to him, they already have amnesty, but if we let them legally stay, it’s no longer amnesty...pretty convoluted thinking for not being a lawyer!

Paul sounds muddled. Why would he want the illegals in this country? This is not the position of a patriotic American. The illegals take jobs away from us and use up our resources. And amnesty is how terrorist will gain a foothold. We will be better off deporting the illegals.
Most federally funded welfare benefits are not available to immigrants, illegal or otherwise. This change was made in the '96 welfare reform act.
I think we should curtail the welfare, particularly federally funded, irrespective of immigration. I wouldn't use the existence of welfare to restrict immigration, particularly in light of the fact the immigrant populations are more likely to be working than native born.
It is fallacious to assume our unemployment problem is caused by too many workers, or can be alleviated by reducing opportunities for those who want to work.
I'm reminded of the FDR 'brain trust' burning crops and slaughtering livestock in the Great Depression in an effort to reduce supply, drive up prices, and thereby 'save' the economy.

If there are 20 jobs, and you have 25 citizens who want work, and 2 of the 20 jobs are being held by non-citizens, how does that help the 7 unemployed citizens?
Correct, they'd collect benefits, engage in the drug trade (or other black market/criminal activities), and other activities (ever offer a bum a chance to work instead of take a handout?) that they prefer to hard work like construction.

The number of jobs is not fixed, it is relative to the wages offered and the opportunity costs facing those available for employment. We have too high of a minimum wage and too large an entitlement system to reduce joblessness. Those legal problems create unemployment, not the number of people that exists at any one time.
No, we have too few jobs for the number of people wanting work. Hate to break it to you, but there are LOTS of US citizens that want work, and are not real picky. I know a number of guys in construction who are taking anything they can get to keep going. And I know at least 2 who have given up and are trying to find employment outside of construction.
The folks who have lost their jobs over the last 5 years didn’t lose them to welfare. And many are not sitting on their butts, talking on Obamaphones...
I really doubt that, I taught school in Southern California for several years, I don't think you have a real grasp on reality there.
I did not write that, but I agree with it entirely. Unfortunately, Rand has offered nothing in the way of a solution, only homilies.
