What I am about to tell you is something you’ve probably never heard or will ever read in history books.
I believe that I am an eyewitness to history. I cannot tell you that Hitler took Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history. We elected him by a landslide – 98% of the vote. I’ve never read that in any American publications. Everyone thinks that Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and took Austria by force.
In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression. Nearly one-third of our workforce was unemployed. We had 25% inflation and 25% bank loan interest rates.
Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily. Young people were going from house to house begging for food. Not that they didn’t want to work; there simply weren’t any jobs. My mother was a Christian woman and believed in helping people in need. Every day we cooked a big kettle of soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people – about 30 daily.

Hitler seemed like a girlie man as well who knew how to basically do a couple of things well - divide people against each other and give a good speech. By all accounts he was pretty lazy as well preferring to watch movies as opposed to doing actual work - probably because ESPN hadn’t yet been invented.

As evil as he was he had an amazing life. All sorts of improbable events came together to put him in power and keep him there.

And the trouble with that - or one trouble with that - is that the beneficiaries of these improbable events draw the inevitable conclusion that they are somehow gods. And then so do others who fall under their control, power or spell or whatever. All makes for some very bad ju-ju.
When he gives that limp wristed salute he looks that way to me. Not sure that he did anything all that extraordinary in WWI other than being gassed. OK, I guess he had some mild manner of success - probably more political than anything else as he was a bit of a charmer even then. He did make Corporal - so obviously distinguished himself in some small way.
I personally think that’s all he does - watch TV, movies, play golf and give the odd speech now and then. One day (hopefully) someone will write a tell-all book and this will become (again hopefully) common knowledge.

No! “Win with Winnie!” Churchill! With his cigars, with his brandy. And his ROTTEN painting! Rotten! Hitler, THERE was a painter! He could paint an entire apartment in one afternoon! TWO COATS! Churchill. He couldn’t even say “Nazi”. He would say “Nooooozeeehz, Nooooozeeehz!” It wasn’t NOSES, it was NAZIS! Churchill! Let me tell you THIS! And you’re hearing this straight from the horse - Hitler was better looking than Churchill. He was a better dresser than Churchill. He had more hair! He told funnier jokes! And he could dance the PANTS off of Churchill!
Actually, I have seen conflicting info on that, and his injuries, ala Kerry. What is almost certain is he broke down mentally in the end, with psychosomatic blindness and psych issues getting him institutionalized. His shrink was one of the first to disappear, once he got power, and all the records went bye bye.
There is no denying his two Iron Crosses and wounds, he was a brave soldier, we don’t have to pretend otherwise.
