As Colorado goes, so goes the nation. With the culture and demographics of the Intermountain West so rapidly changing, this motto about my home state has become conventional wisdom in national electoral politics, and for good reason. After all, the square state is the capital of the so-called Rocky Mountain Empire, a region that is fast becoming the political equivalent of a test market for the whole country. And if it is true that the way Colorado goes is the way the nation as a whole goes, then America better get ready for some extremely large changes.
Part of Colorados story of change comes from the statehouse where Democrats control both the governors office and both chambers of the Legislature. But as much of the story comes from outside the Capitol, where organic grass-roots uprisings are obliterating old political assumptions.

Folks like me?
Only two smaller Utah counties went for Obama. Not quite up to Oklahoma standards but close.
The comments in this thread presuppose there will be no opposite reaction, especially from Anglos.
It will, especially WTSHTF . . . if you think people are going to put the interests of others over self interest, think again. My liberal friends may still vote Demonrat for a while, but their attitudes are changing. Much different than their obnoxious “unity” and “First Black this and that”
Immigration, particulary illegal, Second Amendment and property rights/economy will soon smack them up the side of the heads.
Only if you’re a carpetbagging liberal or illegal. Doubt that you are.
What would you suggest? Burn a cross on their lawn?
If the amnesty goes through, regardless of what they want to call it, Texas will be blue in 2014. Dewhurst, Strauss and Patterson - who has already announced he is running for Lt. Gov in 2014 - all strongly behind a huge guest worker program. When no one stepped up to challenge Strauss the fat lady sang.
Houston’s government is solid Democrat, ultra liberal, gay and strongly supports illegals. Texas does have a huge population but most of it is centered in Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Dallas. Just not enough people elsewhere to counter that. And the whole state had serious voter fraud issues in 2012. Wait until all those folks in Houston have to pay taxes for all those new schools they are going to build.
Possibly.
Yeah Texas already has 3.7 million on Medicaid.
All the secession bluster was just bluster.
How to turn a state liberal
Easy.. massive unopposed voter fraud..
Then a few liberals makes everyone THINK there are few conservatives..
So they just bitch and whine.. you know.. being so law abiding..
Last thing they think is turning over the chessboard because the game is rigged..
You know... Revolt... somebody might actually get KILLED..
Liberals have conservatives by the balls and are SQUEEEZING!...
Conservatives just sigh and moan.. it’s a disgusting display..
Ducks and covers...

Be as totally and obnoxiously un-PC as possible around them. Put up big “pro-life” or “pro-Christ” signs wherever you can. Show them your gun collection, and that you’ll happily put a bullet in the brain of anyone who tries to take away your Second Amendment rights. Make the bastards squirm.
Colorado is 21% Hispanic, Texas and California are both 38% Hispanic.
Very true and I’ve seen and heard similar things. Colorado has gone blue and will stay blue for a bit of time.
I keep trying to comfort myself by saying if OH, WI and MI (I’ve lived in all of those states during communist rule)can return to the State legislative bodies and Governorship to red then CO will eventually return as all.
The question is how much damage will the locusts do in the meantime to this once great state and how long will it take to rebuild from that damage.
One of the biggest problems in CO is the absolute feckless GOP.
I can’t even get my state rep, Amy Stephens, to acknowledge receipts of an email. I think she believes since her district is so deeply red she has nothing to worry about.
When conservatives pull their votes, their monies and their interest, she and others will find out how quickly something so red can turn so blue.
Not that soon, but probably by 2020.
if we had only the commitment to not vote in democrats all over the place...if only people realized that you can never ever vote a rat in....NEVER...because they're all alike and they're all going to make this a quick version of communist Russia...
thx to all the freepers who voted for bamey boy and other ilk, or didn't vote, or voted for third party....
True dat.
Its a demographic shift. Other states are going in the opposite direction.
The LIBS just run a state into the ground, driving up the debt, then move to another area to get away from their handiwork.
The state they move to ‘loves’ it at first but the old habits take over and in a few years they have driven their ‘new’ state into the ground...
LIKE THE STORY
When Phil and Jill moved into Smalltown, they fell in love with the quaintness, lack of traffic etc.
Jim, their new neighbor, invited Phil to the firehouse for a meal and ‘checkers’ every other Thursday. Jim’s wife started taking Jill to the PTA meetings.
One day, on the way home from the market, Jill (still citified) stepped in a hole, twisted her ankle and immediately started ‘raising hell’ to put in a sidewalk.
She got some backing and before long the village had new sidewalks, then had to go back and put the handicap ramps.
Phil, meanwhile, decided to skip his Thursday ‘date’ and Jim said ‘every Thursday we ‘hang out at the fire house’ in case they need us.
Well, Jill has somehow gotten on the Town Council and says it is time to HIRE paid firefighters and don’t use the Vols anymore.
After ‘griping’ about all the niceties not being available, Phil and Jill started a campaign.....etc....etc...
Now, the quaint little town is a larger town, with all the trimmings, including Police (the County had been taking care), Fire and Ambulance, homeless shelter, Walmart + the traffic that goes with it, and everything else that is needed to ‘lose’ a small town.
Phil was heard to remark
“I am putting my house up for sale, the taxes are out of hand and it no longer has the nice, quaint, small town atmosphere that drew us here”.......DUH...
—Sorry for the length—
the song SILENT RUNNING by mike and the mechanics keeps running through my head.
“teach the children quietly for someday sons and daughters will rise up and fight while we stood still.”
