I think conservatives need to do better at reaching out to blacks, not because they're black but because they're urban poor who happen to be the largest group. However it cannot be a government solution. Telling someone to get off the plantation is easy. Leading them off the plantation is hard. Things like supporting inner city conservative family and faith conversations.

Personally I'd love to see groups of conservatives get together to sponsor poor urban kids with good grades to places like Hillsdale college. I'm about as poor and white as they come but I'm trying to do something.

We can't help everyone, but everyone can help someone.

Terry’s comment that slaves should have been ‘grateful for the food and shelter’ (paraphrased) sounds a lot like modern dems who promise all sorts of goodies in exchange for liberty. Instead of working crops, they just expect working the voting booth.

I think conservatives need to do better at reaching out to blacks...

Really? How can anything that conservatives say or do compete with Free Stuff? Urban blacks aren't chumps: why work when you can access free, no strings attached programs that pay for your food, your rent, your meds and even your cell phone? And more to the point, why vote for the candidate that wants to limit your access to Free Stuff?

We must save America without urban blacks, or despite them. They aren't going to be willing to help themselves any time soon.

I'd like to see that carried even farther by placing these kids as temporary interns inside successful businesses.

Democrats have been terrible for urbanites and blacks. It’s a real opportunity for us. Here in IL our State Treasurer has done an excellent outreach to minorities and he is the only GOP candidate to have nailed the Chicago vote. He’s great at outreach.

He’s going to run for Governor. He’s the only Republican to vote for civil unions. He’s never been married and is rumored to be homosexual. So now what do you do?

We have to start somewhere - and that's as good a start as I've seen in a while. We reward the kids who are making an effort - NOT the gangbangers like liberals do... Good idea Cripplecreek.
