Videos are mostly intended to arouse emotions and negate the opportunity for critical thinking.

There is also the unfortunate fact that a large percentage of our population is unable or unwilling to read or read well. If you wish to communicate with these people, you're more or less stuck with video or audio.

Yep. It has its place. It does depend on whether the intention is to keep the audience trapped at the emotional level.
