FL:Campus gun ban had no deterrent effect on UCF shooting

That a former University of Central Florida student still living on campus did not carry out a wider plan to shoot others in his dormitory and instead turned his gun on himself was a mere matter of luck for his potential victims, the Orlando Sentinel is reporting this morning.

“James Oliver Seevakumaran, 30, was found in his dorm room in Tower 1, a seven-story structure near the UCF Arena,” the story reports. “He died from a single shot to the head fired by one of his newly purchased guns, police said.”

He had a handgun, what police call an “assault weapon,” hundreds of rounds of ammunition and “handmade explosives” which another report describes as “four bombs.” Writings found in his room reveal he had planned a wider attack, which he evidently decided against.

Had Seevakumaran decided on that other course, anyone obeying UCF policy would have been defenseless in a face-to-face encounter.

“The University of Central Florida prohibits the possession, use, or storage of weapons on property owned or controlled by the University of Central Florida, including in a vehicle brought onto university property, on one’s person, or in one’s office or residence hall,” UCF Policy 3-119, “Weapons on University Property and at University Events” states unequivocally.

The university has taken steps to expel him.

********** The university has taken steps to expel him. ********

ROFL

Seriously, though. 30 years old? Living in a dorm? Only students I know living in dorms are freshman, some sophomores and kids on athletic scholarships.

Things must be quite different down there.

Yeah. This is very serious.

His having all those weapons is STRICTLY against university policy.

Bad, bad.

***...what police call an “assault weapon,”****

I’ve been all over several H&K web sites and an only find that type of firearm in .22 rimfire with a 25 round magazine.

So, if he had four bricks if .22 shells he would have “thousands of rounds!” yet it is being played up as a assault rifle!

Like statutory gun bans everywhere, it had absolutely NO effect on a potential lawbreaker; it merely disarmed the law-abiding and made them potential victims.

I'm curious... does anyone actually know what terrible 'assault weapons' and 'explosives' were found? The words, as always, are thrown around with utter disregard for the truth; for all we know, this guy had a Ruger 10/22, an old Mossberg break-barrel .410 shotgun and a backpack full of firecrackers.

THANK YOU!

This is the image they're showing of the "assault weapon:"

I held one of these in my hands just last week. It shoots .22 rimfire! The "suppressor" that they're all freaking out about is a fake. It's just a barrel shroud. It has absolutely ZERO suppression capabilities.

There have been reports from locals that the IEDs they found were either inert or non-functional. This guy was a wannabe. He might've harmed some students, but in the end, he was a coward who killed himself when faced with the possibility of armed resistance.

It appears that he wanted to, but did not have the ability to pull it off. We see it in would be serial killers as well. It is only those that are smart enough, or lucky enough, that do not get caught after the first one or two, that make the headlines.

Those that get caught or stopped do not make the headlines.

I’m more irritated that they’re calling him a “shooter,” when the only person he shot was himself. He’s not a shooter, he’s not a killer, he’s not a mass murderer. He’s someone who wrote down his plans to kill people, planted some fake IEDs, and shot himself after he realized that none of the initial stages of his plan were working out and the police were inbound.

As far as I’m concerned, he’s a failure of a human being who couldn’t hack it in college or in any attempt to commit a crime. He’s worthless.
