Singer Michelle Shocked's words about gays are coming back to haunt her.
By late Monday evening, hours after the spread of news about Michelle Shocked's anti-gay tirade at Yoshi's San Francisco, most venues on her national Short Sharp Shocked tour - including Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, Napa, Portland, Eugene, Boulder and Chicago - had canceled.
Mike Green, communications director of the Kings Place Music Foundation, under whose auspices she was to play in London, wrote to inquiring reader Lisa Woolf that they'd been in contact with her agent in Europe "and will speak with him as soon as possible, but it is very unlikely that she will tour again after what has happened. I must say that it's very unfortunate for all involved."

I think it’s accurate to say she literally shocked her audience. The word “shock” predates the connotation with electricity and, in this case her statement produced a strong sense of upset or shock in her audience. This is literally true as can be gauged by the reaction.
Whoa! - you’re right. They really were shocked.
That reminds me of this bit from a piece by Mark Steyn: That comes with the grasping of
binders, literally grasping in Joe Bidens case (and literally literally, not Bidenesque literally),
as a major campaign theme.
