'Events are being held in Scotland and London to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Scottish missionary and explorer Dr David Livingstone.
Representatives from the governments of Scotland and Malawi will attend a day of events at the David Livingstone Centre in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire.
A memorial service will also be held at Westminster Abbey in London, where Livingstone was buried in 1874.
Other bicentenary celebrations will also be held in Africa.
Dr Livingstone grew up in poverty but went on to explore central and southern Africa where he became the first European to "discover" and name Victoria Falls, advanced the use of quinine to fight malaria and campaigned to end slavery in east Africa.'

Is his name pronounced Living-stone Or Living-ston?
I've always said "living-stone," because that's the way it's spelled.
Spelling in English can be deceptive. It’s ston, not stone.
It must be rather rough
to be addressed as Reverend Ough.
Or do you politely cough
and say, 'No, I pronounce it Ough'?
Yet if you lived in Slough
you'd be known as Reverend Ough.
While the priest by Irish lough
is addressed as Father Ough.
But I rather think it, though,
that you're simply known as Ough.
Still, I think I've said enough
Mr. Oh, Ow, Ock or Uff.
That is funny because I have only heard it pronounced as Living-ston, as in this History.com video
The latter.
Seems there are people who pronounce their own names wrong—like John Boehner.
It’s Dr. Livingston I presume.
Me Too!
George W. Featherstonhaugh (1780-1866) was a British geologist who did a lot of traveling in the US. His Excursion through the Slave States... reporting his observations during a trip in the 1830s makes for interesting reading. He later helped King Louis Philippe and his wife escape from France during the revolution of February 1848.
He brought the three Cs to Africa. Civilization, commerce and Christianity...the poor poor sods.
