What is nonsense to you makes sense to me. What makes sense to you does not make sense to me, though there was once a time when it did.

Seriously, though, some passages are more difficult to parse than others. I once asked a wise preacher about the meaning of a certain somewhat obscure passage. His response was, “Are you going to live that today?” I replied by asking, “How can I live it if I don’t even know what it means?” He said, “There are a lot of passages whose meaning is clear. Focus on living those in your life, and perhaps God will reveal the meaning of the more difficult passages to you.”
