Ever heard the claim that Latinos are "natural conservatives"? The person repeating the conventional wisdom of the Beltway apparently hasn't examined the evidence.
That's why, for Republicans, to buy that canard spells disaster. The most recent evidence comes from a new Latino Decisions poll. It shows two-thirds of Latinos support "comprehensive immigration reform" that includes special immigration privileges for foreign-born gays and lesbians.
Of those Hispanic respondents who favored giving homosexual couples the same immigration rights as traditional couples, 92 percent view it as important (very or somewhat) to make the change part of any amnesty bill in Congress.
While the Christian community has taken a stand to preserve the institution of marriage, Latinos who report being Christians don't agree with the traditional biblical view on marriage. Some 71 percent of Catholic Latinos and 53 percent of Hispanics claiming to be "born-again Christians" support gay spousal amnesty and visas, according to the poll.
The foreign-born Latinos were even more supportive of this position 65 percent vs. 63 percent of native-born Hispanics.
Other surveys have found Latinos significantly more likely than the native-born to have single-mother households, use welfare, prefer bigger government that provides more services, and view free enterprise negatively. That doesn't sound exactly like a "movement conservative".
For liberal critics of amnesty and mass immigration this may not matter. But the Republican Party would wake up after an amnesty fling with open-borders special interests of all stripes to find they'd left them in the morning. The only thing to show for selling out their party's base is an even bigger Democratic electorate.
I wonder if his Latina sister in law and half-Latino niece and nephew helped get out the vote. Of course the Bushes want the Latino vote since the half-Latino nephew is waiting his turn in line after his father Jeb. It is all about the dynasty, don’t you know.
I need to know if immigration threads are going to go the way they have in the past with anyone trying to educate about this being dragged through the mud with insults, lies and attacks by some who consider themselves ‘FR insiders’ like ‘BRYAN’ on this thread. If so, please tell me now, so I don’t waste any more of your or my time. If your rule ‘please remember to use common courtesy when posting and refrain from posting personal attacks’ is not going to be enforced, fine, just say so.
Bryan sent several insulting replies to me and I have NEVER posted to him, so don’t blame me for starting it this time!
Thanks.
According to Dick Morris the percent of the latino vote going to Bush was closer to 35%. Which isn’t a great deal better than before and since.
Yes, in GWB first term when the economy appeared to be improving and Hispanics were buying those first houses and Iraq looking like an easy win and Bush was running deficits handing out free candy, they were able to nale down some Hispanic votes in 2004.
But those days are over because those things were not sustainable.
With the bad economy Obama did the best he could to dangle freebees in front of them, while the GOP did the best they could to convince them that only the rich matter to them,
If the GOP is going to court their vote then they need to be honest about what that means, and its not pretty.
“Mexicans ARE NOT AND HAVE NEVER BEEN Conservative! Mexicans are like GYPSIES.”
DING! DING! DING! We have a winner!
About half of what you said is accurate, sickoflibs. The rest shows signs of spin. The closer you got to the end of your post, the more accurate you became. AuntB is hooked on presenting a Mexican poll and pretending it’s a poll of Latino-Americans. I think your spin is unintentional and you’re just repeating what you’ve been told. Hers is deliberate.
I know a lot of Latinos. The ones who are here legally. The ones who were born here. The ones who can vote legally. You know, there are Latino families in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas and New Mexico who have been living here for 200-300 years.
AuntB claims that she’s “educating” us. Here’s some real education.
The illegals cause a lot of problems for Latinos who are here legally. To a very large extent, the illegals are predators and the legal Latinos are their favorite prey.
Think about it. If you’re here illegally from Mexico, with brown skin, and you speak about seven or eight words of English with a heavy accent (if you can speak any at all), whose identity are you most likely to steal: Mike Murphy, Vladimir Volkov, or Tony Gonzalez? Obviously you’re going to steal the identity of Tony Gonzalez. Because you can convince a potential employer, a potential landlord, and even the cops that you really are Antonio Gonzalez.
Illegal Latinos drive up the cost of renting an apartment or buying a used car for legal Latinos, because they stay in the Latino community. And they drive down wages for legal Latinos for the same reason.
If they’re dealing drugs, they’re dealing to the sons and daughters of legal Latinos. If they’re stalking young girls, their most likely victims are the daughters of legal Latinos. Because those victims are the ones they see every day.
Yes, some legal Latinos have family members who are illegal or still living in Mexico, and they want to reunite their families here where the money is. Where the good life is. Who can blame them?
But the ones who have their entire families here are very much opposed to amnesty. And if we can just get the illegal Latinos out of the country, and prevent them from voting illegally, you will all see a substantial change in the way the rest of them vote, and respond to polls.
If we turn our backs on legal Latinos, and drive them away with harsh, racist rhetoric, we are finished as a political party.
Finished.
On the other hand your attack on her was unprovoked and out of line.
The obvious point of the thread was to refute the canard thrown around by certain open border types as a justification for loosening conservative attitudes towards the illegal population. Polls consistently show it is not true, and while it may be harsh theres nothing racist about calling an untruth what it is.
most immigrants vote democrat...legal too
even Cubans now
white immigrants tend to vote GOP but all else doe not...some claim Sikhs vote GOP and maybe older Viets and older Cubans but now
as a majority THEY ALL vote for identity preference\
and being personal with AuntB ain;t gonna fix anything
the only thing that will is just temporary political victories
a conservative candidate might get out more white conservatives to vote
but we will never know since we can't seem to nominate one with folks who think like you are talking here running FOX, the GOP and National Review and Wall Street Journal and Wash Times and most importantly state primaries etc
latinos have not as a rule assimilated to our ways...their crime, unemployment and illegitimacy rates are only slightly below tropical Africans...native or immigrant
Orientals...I hate that non specific term Asian..who knows why...like Jews most are well off and enjoying the “dream” but they buy into the victimhood culture and I guess view America and the West as one long transgression of white Christian excess that has only held folks different down rather than been the purveyor of civilizing and liberty bearing forces
I got news for you Bryan
comes down to it...this won't be settled with votes
at some point the race...yes I'm saying it...the race or culture if that sounds better that pretty much conquered the world is going to wake up and fight back and folks of color and non Christian who believe in the same things will join us...there are a few
and those who don't can join Blue State whites and non whites and we'll see how it goes
I do not think the heritage I came from will surrender all with just a whimper...i sure hope not and I am training mine to resist
You’re speaking a lot of truth.
Democratic Party operatives are speaking to Latinos constantly in Spanish: in Spanish language newspapers and magazines, on Spanish language TV and talk radio, and on the Internet. They’re lying. They’re constantly telling the Latino community that Obama is a miracle worker, that he fixed the economy, that he’s kind and just and wise, and that all Republicans are racists.
And from us? Nothing. We’re letting them get away with it.
See my previous post to Caipirabob. Democratic Party operatives are successfully turning Latinos against us with their lies. If we respond to those lies with the truth -- in Spanish -- we can take them back.
lol..no shite
and to think me and travis and marine inspector and jackelope and many others were hounded off this forum once by those same jackasses that left over Rudy and went to anti freep..and call some important in this site all sorts of vile names...just like they did as Klowns before
and you betcha...some are sure as hell back now
just two weeks ago one smeared me with the usual racial and religious crap
they are weak
just a few examples...as a southerner i knew these jerk were fakirs anyhow
sinkspur, illbay, bayourod, prdn321, rtb3d, non sequitur and so forth...how long did we point out these folks were not really all that conservative?
and they got away with these zot posse gangs for years
now..we all get it I guess...at least most of us anyhow
it’s not about bigotry...skin color...kinky hair...height...not even religion except with Islam
it’s about behavior and voting patterns
these are not Poles, Irish, early Jews, Italians etc trying to fit into an Aglo-Scots Irish Germanic existing nation
these are supplanters
What you said, wardaddy!
Ten years ago I knew what needed doing but now I really don't know what can be done.
“I do not think the heritage I came from will surrender all with just a whimper...i sure hope not and I am training mine to resist “
Most of my family has been in this country since the 1600’s. The ones who didn’t come then, were already here. All of them were involved in one war, usurpation, being ran out of their homes, served as indentured servants after another for centuries. I’ve had enough war and death in my heritage! I don’t want any more fights and injustice, but BOTH parties just won’t let that happen. They have cost thousands of innocent lives of ALL colors with their open border insanity.
Blood is on THEIR hands, and they are my ENEMY. I didn’t make this fight...THEY did! But I sure as hell won’t back down from it. NOT THIS TIME!
We should be emphasizing that legal Hispanics are not thrilled to have illegals living among them but of course the Republicans do not have the intelligence to even think of this much less use this to woo more Hispanics. Many Hispanics, when in the privacy of the voting booth will definately vote to get the neighborhood destroying, job taking illegals out of the country.
Too much is made of racial loyalty. If Hell’s Angels moved into a white neighborhood you can be sure there would be no racial loyalty to them even though they have the same skin color as the rest of the neighborhood. Same thing with Hispanics who respect the law. They do not want gangs in their neighborhood, they do not want their schoolrooms overflowing with the illegals children that the legal Hispanics have to pay for while their children’s education is going downhill. This is a quality of life issue to people who want to live in a nice neighborhood, want jobs and want to keep their taxes down. Besides, many of the Hispanics are illegals and cannot vote so why would we care what they think? It is the legal Hispanics who are over 18 and are citizens that we should care about. That reduces their numbers quite a bit.
First you tell us that the latinos agree with us about illegals then you call us racists for what we said. Make up your mind. You can't have it both ways.
There is no proof of your claim about latinos. They DO NOT vote conservative in any way, shape or form.
Bush promised them "a new America" and he still only got about 44%. What more do we need to promise them to get over the 50%? Our country on a silver platter?
This is the third thread where she's presented that survey taken in Mexico -- and by not telling you it was taken in Mexico, she creates the impression that it was taken in the United States. No, she doesn't lie. But just like MSNBC and the New York Times, she doesn't give you all the facts and she knows she's creating the kind of misconceptions that she wants to create.
They know about the hundreds of bodies along the border and you are right, blood is on their hands. More voters, more cheap labor, more dead bodies in the desert.
