You are correct on many points. However, this was a river flowing over us, and how do you stop the river? You go to the source. There was no plucking out the turd. What is happening today is very much like what happened to China because of the opium trade. Human lives were destroyed by drugs just as we see happening in our country today. No man is an island. Even if people have a weakness for drugs or whatever we should not put temptations in front of them. And drugs do not only effect the people who use them. It also effects their families. Fathers and mothers see their children become strangers to them, women prostitute themselves for drugs, people steal for drugs and many people’s bodies and minds are destroyed ending in an early death. Have you ever seen people who use meth?
I think even pot is an insidious drug that lures people into a life of denial of reality. Pot smokers usually start using at an early age, the age in which they are supposed to be making the change from childhood to adulthood. Those precious years are lost. The wisdom and character that they should be developing in those years never comes about. “What does your son do? Oh, he lives in the basement and smokes pot all day.”
We need to change the vocabulary of the culture. I have made a promise to myself to be aware of my language and to chose my words carefully, whenever possible I will use those old words that we seldom hear today to surround people with those traditional values, words such as character, honor, right, wrong, wisedom etc. The vocabulary of virtue has been replaced with a trash vocabulary that surrounds us in this corrupt media culture.
Those members that I talk to are very involved, and given the denomination, I believe most should be voting conservative.
