A new proposal would require New York City retailers to keep tobacco products out of sight under a first-in-the-nation proposal aimed at reducing the youth smoking rate, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday.
The legislation would require stores to keep tobacco products in cabinets, drawers, under the counter, behind a curtain or in other concealed spots. They could only be visible when an adult is making a purchase or during restocking.
"Such displays suggest that smoking is a normal activity," Bloomberg said. "And they invite young people to experiment with tobacco."

That occurs Monday-Sunday at my Italian American Club.
Next, he’ll be requiring a weigh-in before you are allowed to buy a doughnut. All doughnuts will be kept out of sight. Only those with low BMIs will be allowed to even SEE the doughnuts.
Personally, I like a jelly-filled with some sugar coating on the outside.
Any chance of getting that Bloom-ing idiot banned?
Because we all know kids would never know smokes exist without displays down at the General Store.
Yet all of those kids have access to hard-core smut.
In other words, could Mister Bloomberg's statist edicts be the result of a form of PTSD from being one-upped socially, or possibly bullied, by those of normal or greater physical stature?.
.
This idiot is turning into a little Napoleon isn’t he?
Blooingidiot has all the credentials to make him desirable to the G.O.P.E. as the next “R” presidential candidate.
Dole, McCain, Romney, Bloomberg, a natural progression.
His new group “Mayors Against Tobacco Viewing”
How about horse’s a$$ mayors being kept out of sight.
$$$s
Whaat? They let you smoke? Not in the despotic city of New York though right?
but no one understands that Obamacare is much worse than ALL the things Bloomberg has done.
Already there 50,000 pages of new government regulations for Obamacare set to come out.
Just one of these regulations requires delis ,convenience stores, supermarkets ,everything to post calorie counts of every item of food ,after lab analysis etc.
ALL democrat congressmen voted for Obamacare not a single Republican did. democrats get a pass always. all democrats also want to take away our guns, take our retirement, want Amnesty and to grow government even more (take away our freedoms)
Il Duetche Blloomberg- NYC’s pro-choice mayor....it will be his choice as to what you can drink...it will be his choice as to where you can smoke...it will be his choice as to what advertising you can and cannot see! hail il deutsche bloomberg!
more likely the little twit was just an excellent vessel for an evil spirit...
bump
Look, “his people” of NY cannot read so he should leave the cigs out in public so customers can point to the brand they want.
P.S.-Has he made mention that NY’ers cannot read and it is important he help teach them? No? Well, I didn’t think so.
Guess I’m amazed this wasn’t dealt with years ago.
Would that also go for suppressing the visibility of Snoop Doog materials, Hollyweird films, and certain publications that glorify "schmoking"?
Or are they exempted as were 40 oz bottles of malt liquor under his 32oz. "beverage" ban?
Despot Bloomberg claims he is banning all this stuff for public health, yet he promotes bicycle riding like a fanatic which kills more and more people every year. Just about every day I read the paper, sure enough another person is killed riding a bike.
This proves to me this is not about public health with him but more about flexing his power. Like I said in another post, every Monday like clockwork he bans something new. He keeps testing the boundaries to see what he can get away with.
Can you imagine this guy as President? And liberals think the 2nd Amendment is unnecessary? ho ho ho.
