it sounds good. It creates universal standards

If universal standards sound good to the author then the author is not to be trusted.

Indoctrination is the primary goal.

The bloated program is underfunded. Local school administrators have already started complaining that the grants aren't enough to cover the requirements behind them.

Oh my goodness, that's such a novelty! There have never been government programs that promised a handout but actually ended up costing more than the payoff!!! (/s)

How many times can school administrators, state legislatures, etc., fall for this before we're justified in concluding that they're all a bunch of idjits?

Thank you Ronald Reagan and William Bennett for making the nationalization of education a program that both the Republicans and the Democrats can stand behind.

For example, Algebra 1 would be taught in 9th grade, not 8th grade for many students, making calculus inaccessible to them in high school.

I wondered about that.

Of course it's better to start algebra in 8th grade, but why can't schools make their curriculum in such a way that seniors get to calculus anyway, even if they start algebra in 9th grade?

My own experience, for what little it's worth, is that calculus was easy in comparison with trigonometry.

It’s called the golden rule.

The camel’s nose came into the tent LONG ago!

Preparing everyone for college. That’s a joke. Not everyone is “college material.” Some people are better with their hands. Not to mention that we have thousands of recent college graduates who are un- or under-employed. There should be two tracks for education, college prep and vocational.
