“and how are we to deal with our own powerful, long-standing convictions on important issues like marriage, abortion, drug use”
As I said, those generally should be left to the state and local level. It has been common practice for liberals to smear advocates of states rights as “Hurp de derp an excuse to repeal the Civil Rights Act” which of course it never was. Nobody on the right has advocated repealing the CRM.
“and a powerful military”
There is a pretty widespread conviction among many that American tax dollars shouldn’t be used for Europe and Japan’s defense as they’ve been since 1945 and that they should pay for their own militaries. A good deal of this sentiment is also based on the idea that the US shouldn’t play world police as happened on numerous unfortunate occasions (Balkan Wars during the 90s, Libya, etc). Of course actions like invading Afghanistan were justifiable because they were sheltering Al Qaeda and we should not lump them in with the above ones.
Look, it’s the federal level that’s taking away our rights. That’s where the fight has to be!
If you don’t stand in defense of our most basic God-given rights to Life and Liberty, then get the hell OUT!!
Keep working against our stated principles and goals, then you may find yourself evicted without further warning!
Well, I appreciate your response.
There’s also a lot of conviction out there that if conservatives cede a broad-based opposition to homo ‘rights,’ drug use, open borders, etc., then the U.S. will spin farther and faster into the toilet.
I’m blessed to live in a state which will be flushed away relatively late in proceedings...but as California goes so goes Colorado, as Colorado goes so go the rest of the Rocky Mountain states...homos, government employees, illegals and welfarists have the numbers on their side..
I know what you are talking about in regard to states’ rights and states’ preferences. But this is the big war for the heart & soul of the country and if you or I think we can draw the line for the sh!+ monsoon at the state lines...then I think we are kidding ourselves.
