A much-anticipated Republican National Committee Chairman report due out Monday on how to reverse the GOPs fortunes is expected to call for fewer Republican debates, a condensed primary calendar and an earlier party convention.
In an interview on CBSs Face the Nation Sunday, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus outlined those three main recommendations for the 2016 presidential election. The RNCs so-called autopsy a detailed review of the GOPs 2012 failures and roadmap going forward will also include suggestions to improve the partys digital capabilities and bolster its voter database, among other proposals.
Priebus is set to unveil the plan titled the Growth and Opportunity Project Monday morning at the National Press Club.

“and how are we to deal with our own powerful, long-standing convictions on important issues like marriage, abortion, drug use”
As I said, those generally should be left to the state and local level. It has been common practice for liberals to smear advocates of states rights as “Hurp de derp an excuse to repeal the Civil Rights Act” which of course it never was. Nobody on the right has advocated repealing the CRM.
“and a powerful military”
There is a pretty widespread conviction among many that American tax dollars shouldn’t be used for Europe and Japan’s defense as they’ve been since 1945 and that they should pay for their own militaries. A good deal of this sentiment is also based on the idea that the US shouldn’t play world police as happened on numerous unfortunate occasions (Balkan Wars during the 90s, Libya, etc). Of course actions like invading Afghanistan were justifiable because they were sheltering Al Qaeda and we should not lump them in with the above ones.
As long as the GOP is led by a guy with a name no one can pronounce and that sounds sinister, almost demonic, they are gonna get what they deserve. May a curse be upon the GOP and its end come before the next harvest.
Don’t get me wrong of course. I regard social liberalism as garbage and it goes without saying that the nuclear family is the backbone of civilization. One need only go on Daily Kos and see the shrill radical feminists on there talking about how much they love their cats because of course they’re not married and don’t have children, concept that they despise.
Or this thing thechildfreelife.com. Why do sites like that even exist? Is there any reason why I’m supposed to care that you don’t want any kids or that you think it’s necessary to advertise this fact to the world?
Allowing larger government means we always lose on social issues. The main focus must be reducing the federal government.
I think that was my whole point. That you cannot completely dispense with social issues, but you also shouldn’t fall into the trap of Rick Santorum where he literally seemed to care about nothing except some slut’s birth control pills.
Although Santorum was really a fraud trying to cover up his extremely liberal Senate voting record by beating the drum of social issues, but you get the picture.
“Excessive focus on social issues”
Yes, the memo has gone out, hasn’t it? From dweebs on Fox News to a few voices here on FR, we just need to shut up about those embarrassing social issues. Abortion, homosexuality——no one wants to hear that! Plus, we look like rubes! /s
To hell with that. If winning elections means I’m expected to be quiet about sodomites messing with each other and calling it “marriage”, or the murder of unborn infants, the GOP can win them without my help.
There are certain people on the right who do very much want to turn the country into a Christian theocracy. They are as much statists as the liberals trying to outlaw candy bars in schools.
Look, it’s the federal level that’s taking away our rights. That’s where the fight has to be!
If you don’t stand in defense of our most basic God-given rights to Life and Liberty, then get the hell OUT!!
Keep working against our stated principles and goals, then you may find yourself evicted without further warning!
Yeah, you keep distorting my position and make me say things I never did.
Well, I appreciate your response.
There’s also a lot of conviction out there that if conservatives cede a broad-based opposition to homo ‘rights,’ drug use, open borders, etc., then the U.S. will spin farther and faster into the toilet.
I’m blessed to live in a state which will be flushed away relatively late in proceedings...but as California goes so goes Colorado, as Colorado goes so go the rest of the Rocky Mountain states...homos, government employees, illegals and welfarists have the numbers on their side..
I know what you are talking about in regard to states’ rights and states’ preferences. But this is the big war for the heart & soul of the country and if you or I think we can draw the line for the sh!+ monsoon at the state lines...then I think we are kidding ourselves.
Who are these people on the right who want a Christian theocracy?
“Theres also a lot of conviction out there that if conservatives cede a broad-based opposition to homo rights, drug use, open borders, etc., then the U.S. will spin farther and faster into the toilet.”
I have never advocated in favor of those behaviors, none of which are acceptable in a civilized society. Of course you can’t placate some of the hysterics in this thread, but they already decided in advance that they’re only going to hear what they want to hear.
If the RNC has one job, it's GOTV.
The candidates shouldn't have to re-invent the wheel every four years. The RNC should know who their voters are...and how to get them to the polls.
From the last election, it's clear they don't know how to do this.
Some people in the South definitely appear to be along those lines. Of course, you still need their votes to win elections, which was why I said that it’s impossible to totally dispense with them.
I am libertarian along with a lot of other conservatives and, unfortunately, liberals. When it comes to making a decision between candidates I look for one with conservative values and a vision of limited government. It’s not hard to support one that wants to simply limit government (e.g. Cain, Paul) without getting wrapped up in philosophical arguments.
“From the last election, it’s clear they don’t know how to do this.”
They don’t. It’s almost comical how the GOP glorifies Ronald Reagan while having absolutely no clue how he did what he did. The man mounted a broad, populist appeal to voters which is something that is utterly lacking in recent presidential candidates.
I mean, really. Can you think of even one thing John McCain or Mitt Romney did to define what conservatism is or provide any convincing reason to vote for them? Did they ever say anything to compare with “Government isn’t the solution to the problem, government is the problem.” No they did not.
A few, of course. But not so many that only nervous nellie liberals and the SPLC should be worried about.
If, as a conservative, you believe that Christian theocracy is an issue -- then you're worried about the wrong end of the Republican spectrum.
Unfortunately, Reince DIDN’T say anything about the GOP-e/Dem-lite party returning to its conservative roots.
Adios, muchachos!
Of course. Those people have no real power. The GOP uses them to get votes and drops them like a hot potato after elections. It’s not they who are presently occupying the Oval Office.
