Marco Rubio takes second place -
Sen. Rand Paul won the 2013 Washington Times-CPAC presidential preference straw poll Saturday, and Sen. Marco Rubio was a close second, easily outdistancing the rest of the field and signaling the rise of a new generation of conservative leaders who will take the Republican Party into the 2016 election.
Mr. Paul won 25 percent of the vote, and Mr. Rubio collected 23 percent. Former Sen. Rick Santorum was third with just 8 percent, New JerseyGov. Chris Christie who was not invited to speak at the three-day Conservative Political Action Conference was next with 7 percent, and Rep. Paul D. Ryan, the GOPs vice presidential nominee last year, was fifth with 6 percent.

Rand Paul/Ted Cruz 2016!
Another good reason to keep mocking CPAC
The question is... will this victory be a blessing or a curse for Rand Paul? Only time will tell.
At the moment, I’m more focused on 2014, because if we fail to take the Senate and keep the House that year, we’re finished.
Paul/Ryan 2016 Get it? *SMIRK*
Anybody else see a problem with this group and their "pole"?
How’d McCain do?
I really like Ted Cruz. He’s on stage at CPAC right now, carried live on C-SPAN.
He blew a gasket.
He’s giving a great keynote.
I was really surprised that Ted Cruz did not win the straw poll..just at the mention of his name he got a huge applause..yet he had only 4 percent of the vote(With Sarah Palin at 3 percent) I guess the younger audience really loves Rand Paul
I wonder if his birth status is what kept him from getting more votes?
So how are things going these days with Revolutionary Curmudgeon Party?
The second they showed the poll of who was voting and it showed an overwhelmingly younger crowd I knew Rand Paul would win..younger people are more Libertarian, they love Rand and they love his father.
-— I guess the younger audience really loves Paul -—
His dad won last time. The Paulbots usually get bussed in, so no one takes the poll very seriously.
Oh you can bet the Obama kiss ass media reports “Sarah Palin only received 4 percent of the CPAC vote” yeah, because the whole place was full of PaulBots
It was likely a battle between Paul and Rubio. Those that don’t think Rubio goes far enough flocked to the candidate with a very strong base, Rand Paul. And those who don’t think a Rand Paul candidacy has a good chance in 2016 flocked to the other side, with Rubio.
Everyone else fell between the cracks.
Whoa! Slow down.
I like both of them very much, too; and I will probably defend them on FR when I think the naysayers are jumping the shark. Nonetheless, it's way too early to get that enthusiastic about either of them.
We have plenty of time to watch and question.
The poll is bogus..Ted Cruz gets a huge applause yet only gets 4 percent..rigged!!
The libertarians have been stuffing vote for this straw poll forever, Ron Paul won it how many times?
