Rob Portman Comes Out
PJ Media ^ | March 15, 2013 | Stephen Green

Ohio Republican Senator Rob Portman, a longtime opponent of same-sex marriage, said on Friday he now believes gays have a right to marry after learning two years ago that his son is gay.

Portman, who was on the short list to be 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s running mate, made the announcement in an opinion piece in an Ohio newspaper and gave interviews on his change of heart.

“I have come to believe that if two people are prepared to make a lifetime commitment to love and care for each other in good times and in bad, the government shouldn’t deny them the opportunity to get married,” Portman wrote in an op-ed piece in the Columbus Dispatch, titled “The Freedom to Marry.”

Indeed.

The “problem” as I see it — and I put “problem” in quotes because I don’t really see it as one — is how to integrate gays into the broader American experience. They’re out, they’re proud, and they should be. Nobody is forcing anybody back into any closet, or re-criminalizing anyone’s love life, without instituting an authoritarian kind of religious state that is antithetical to American values and liberties.

But legalizing gay marriage isn’t quite the answer. Let me explain.

The vile progs want to institute gay marriage also, but not because of any love or concern for gays. Watch how easily and cruelly they throw around accusations that so-and-so is a [UNPRINTABLE WORD FOR GAY] or a [ANOTHER UNPRINTABLE WORD FOR GAY] and you’ll see what I mean. No, for the progressive left, gay marriage is just another club for beating America’s churches into submission to the State. First Catholic birth control, then Baptist gay marriage, and so on. Progressivism is a truly jealous god and will have no other gods before it — not even yours.

Instead, the proper course is to abolish marriage as a government institution. Civil unions for all who want them, gay or straight, for legal purposes of wills, benefits, hospital visitations, etc. But leave marriage where it originated: With the churches. My church will proudly marry gay couples, maybe yours won’t. But no one will be forced to do or recognize anything they don’t want to. Everyone’s rights are protected; everyone’s liberties are respected.

And, oh yeah, the vile progs lose a big battle in their war against freedom of expression.

How’s that for a win-win-win?

Even in ancient Rome, there was no gay marriage! No society, as far as I know has ever sunk to the level of accepting homosexuality by putting it on the same footing as marriage. Think about it, this has been invented and promoted in the Christian West. The Communist world did not invent this, not the Muslim world, not the Buddhist world or the Hindu world. But the Western World which has given the world the highest form of religious expression is now hell bent on tearing down all that is holy in the Christian world.

Have you ever read the “Gay Manifesto”? Portman’s actions are right in keeping with one of the stepping stones of the gay manifesto. One of the gay’s plans was to encourage gays to “come out of the closet” to their families, then to work on their parents and families to get them to accept their homosexuality and then to use their families as advocates for acceptance of homosexuality. It has been working like a charm. A number of prominenet people, some of them Republicans and conservatives have sons or daughters who are gay, trangender etc. and they have come out to defend their children. This causes a socially difficult position within the extended family as well as their friends and colleages as it puts people in an ackward spot since they do not want to hurt the feelings of the parents.

I believe that GOProud has been using this tactic. These people have the subtlety and cleverness of the serpent. We have to find ways to counter this by standing up for our principles regardless of the emotional pressure that the gays know how to use so well.

have come to believe that if two people are prepared to make a lifetime commitment to love and care for each other in good times and in bad, the government...

... is obliged to deconsruct natural marriage pe se, and invent a new, absurd institution with the same name."

What if his son had wanted to give a "lifetime commitment" to two men? Or to his grandmother? Or to a man and a woman (there's the "B" in "LGBT".)

And no that he's got a "lifetime" "commitment", is his daddy going to criminalize divorce?

There’s a word for this that has 8 letters and sounds like a fresh steaming ready-made organic fertilizer product, but it’s a word I don’t want to use on Free Republic.

Here is something from a gay website, just to see how they think and how obsessed they are with their aberrations.

Someone get to this guy as soon as possible and tell him he's NO LONGER A REPUBLICAN and will not get financial support for any of this.

Unfortunately, the Ohio GOP leader has said he will continue to support Portman. Outrageous! They should be asking for his resignation, post haste!

Here is the actual Gay Manifesto. It was written by Carl Wittman who was a member of the SDS and later was an LGBT activist.

Keep this, you will find it very useful to know the enemies plans.

Read paragraph 6 which begins with —”A note on exploitation of children” and #5 top right hand column — “Perversion”.

This is not the Gay Manifesto that I read before, that was more of a specific set of plans for changing society’s attitudes toward the whole gay attitude towards sex.

Homosexuals are being carefully trained in their mind bending of society. They have gay clubs in the highschools so that they can feel comfortable in their milieu. They are trained in how to “come out” to their parents and what sort of language to use. I believe they probably lean more heavily on the mother as being the one who’s motherly portective instincts will be more easy to exploit. So mom works on dad and dad finally caves in. I think that is how it probably worked with Portman and in most homes.

Talking about that stuff that much is also "aberrant and abhorrent."

You're presuming people can actually find a party that doesn't have politicians who are homosexual or have homosexual children.

So no, I don't think that prediction will come true.

How is this any different than a person who buys hot coffee at McDonald’s, spills it on their lap, then campaigns to have hot coffee outlawed for everyone else?

His son is a homosexual. Well, that happens. It does not mean that countless heterosexual people should be oppressed by having to support his non-procreative lifestyle, just because he wants to be nice to his son.

Married heterosexual couples get certain advantages because of the difficulty and expense of raising children. Unmarried and childless people do not get these advantages, which is as it should be, as they do not experience the costs, either.

There is not any reason that he can not live a happy and productive life just because he and his companion(s) cannot pretend to be “just like” a heterosexual couple.

They have no need to adopt, and this is unfair to any child they might adopt, as those children desperately need both a mother and father role model, not two homosexuals or two lesbians.

You are correct! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_same-sex_unions This is the first time in history that gay marriage is put on the same plane as normal heterosexual marriage. Some ancients sanctioned same sex unions but they were never called marriage and were never held out to be equal to real marriage/man/woman

I don’t give a damn about the sexuality of a senator’s son.
But I am very bothered that an elected official is so weak in
his personal beliefs that a revelation by his son could cause
him to pull a 180. He should step down and urge that he
be replaced by his kid.

You need to keep up on my commentaries. Turned out ~ actually this has happened several times so, let’s say it turns out that the American people will not, in general, vote for Republicans when they feel the party is being overrun with gay politicians. in 2006 we lost big time over that particular issue.

Apparently the youth is a victim of adult over indulgence.

You want to be a fairy queen? No problem. Marry your same-sex playmate and your parents will adapt to YOUR idea of sexual pleasure.

The Ten Commandments? They’re merely suggestions.

Your parents stand for whatever satisfies you and out the window with whatever platform I once stood on in order to get elected.

Well, Portman. The near future will prove that congressrats are not elected for life. Your days in the diseased-ridden halls of government are numbered.

Have a cup of tea.
