The Isley Brothers had a fine, raw R&B sound, which had served them well in the early Sixties and again in the early Seventies. In the mid-Sixties, however, they signed with Motown, and Berry Gordy handed them to the Holland-Dozier-Holland team who tried to whiten their sound. This came in at #42 on its way to the Top 20.
