Councilman Kwame Kenyatta and a packed room of Detroiters warned today of an impending revolt against state intervention, urging residents to stock up on canned food and supplies.
Even the Bloods in the hood fight for their territory, Kenyatta said during a 20-minute monologue on the civil rights struggle at todays city council meeting. You are going to have to drag me out of here for me to leave.
Kenyatta cited Frederick Douglass, a former slave who became an intellectual and civil rights icon, because of his position that black people must sacrifice their lives, if necessary, to win freedom and the right to vote. Many in the audience stood up and applauded.
One by one, Detroiters pledged to take to the streets once Gov. Rick Snyder appoints an emergency manager, which is expected Thursday or Friday. Others threatened to block the entrance of city hall.
Save up and purchase food, canned goods and water because you are going to see a new civil rights movement, pledged Marie Thornton, a former Detroit Public Schools Board member. I wont give up my right to vote. We are going to shut down freeways and we are going to disrupt the economic system.
Added Valerie Glenn, a community activist: Make sure you are prepared and you will survive.
Protests so far have been nonviolent. Demonstrators slowed traffic to a few miles per hour on I-75 and I-94 in the past week. But thats mild for whats to come, some warned.
What about black Detroiters who arent prepared to fight?
We have fought for everything we have; how do you sit on the sidelines? Kenyatta asked.
Whatever happens should be very interesting.
Not to bust the thread any more, but the Idaho legislature is looking at that thing to demote the idea of premarital sex on tv shows. Yeah, I know my cuz is a beeotch. But to make it official????
Wasn’t there a rather large black woman recently who yammered about getting their due, cuz they all got barry in office and all, he owed them. I can’t remember who she was but I do recall the obnoxious rant!
Detroit had more union thugs in control and a history of leftist "social justice" infiltration from $hitcago in the 1960's.
But sadly, Atlanta's corruption will catch up as the public schools crumble, I predict. Just ask anyone from New Orleans pre-Katrina.
I know.
And I saw that yesterday the legislature approved acceptance of Obamacare.
Idaho-no-no-no-no!
I agree. Kevyn Orr is probably the best that they could get for this situation, the governor made a very good pick. He is experienced in turnarounds and making tough choices.
Didnt I read that Brooklyn has people rioting? Now Detroit.
This is beginning to look manufactured.
....think ...ROBOCOP......Detroit - What a prize....LOL!
I would agree on a point the Gov. made in one small degree. Obamacare IS the law of the land and by that we will abide. I agree he can SAY that, but once I gets my hands round his scrawny neck...not that I would know anything about the gov.. .I do know Sen. Mike Crapo’s wife. She tells me sumthin’ about the Gov... and “scrawny”....so WTF...
Now that great.
LOL.
Soap on a rope. :)
“I have no idea what they are hoping to accomplish.”
Neither do they. They don’t seem to understand that you can’t disrupt the economic system unless you actually are a net producer and not a net anchor. That applies to the people and to the city as a whole. And a hole.
Turn off the EBT cards and they’ll get the message mucho pronto.
No outside help needed.
They have done so well on their own.
Only about 35% of the city left to destroy and now those nosey-bodies from the state want to step in and screw it all up.
Detroit had riots in 1943 and 1967.
I liked what they both said. The Gov. taking leadership of (or towards) a failing community in his state, and the responsibility for a failing community in his state, and (I had forgotten his name thank you for the supply) Kevyn Orr speaking clearly about the status of his immediate assessments and projections.

Don’t forget about the riot in Detroit in 1943!

There was a riot outside my house just last week. After they tased me for the third time they had me. And all I did was question their authority.
I suppose he was named after Jomo Kenyatta, one of Kenya’s first post- independence leaders.
