I'm reminded of the parable of the sower. Not all seed produces a harvest, but that shouldn't stop the sowers. Some do, some wither and die. I pray this one isn't a weed.
I watch Jeopardy sometimes and it amazes me when contestants don’t know the Bible answers.
As for The Bible series, I was looking at a Town & Country magazine yesterday (a fashion mag for very rich women) and there was a full-page ad for the History Channel Bible. Seemed a strange place to advertise but I was happy to see it.
We have this on DVR, but we have watched the first episode only so far. We enjoyed it, but I was surprised by the fact that it is constructed in such a way that a person who is not familiar with the Bible would really be bewildered while trying to follow the story line.
The special effects are simply amazing. Not really into special effects myself, but I have to admire the work that went into it.
It’s not sexy and smutty but so far, it’s all Old Testament. It’s VERY violent.
The people are depicted as actual people as opposed overacted caricatures - this greatly adds to the quality of the storytelling. The sets are good and the story...well..we know the story is good :)
Reminds me of Tim Tebow and his Bible verses. Google would have tons of hits to look up the verse each week.
As for good Christian movies, I love what Sherwood Pictures have done. Courageous was an excellent movie. Even Tyler Perry makes “religious” movies. One of his male characters says in a movie “I’m a Christian”. You don’t hear that often. I love supporting movies like that. And yes, I know, Tyler Perry is an Obama supporter, but I still love his movies.
Still, maybe if people see the movie, they will want to read the book. God works in mysterious ways, but overall I agree with your sentiment.
I like the premise and I will continue watching it, but honestly I don't think it is all that good. The acting is only fair, the stories are abbreviated and rushed and production substandard. It could be much, much better.
That's 'cause they want us to actively approve, and that just ain't gonna happen.
Mark 9:38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
40 For he that is not against us is on our part.
41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
The black Samson with dreadlocks kinda tore it for me. I never knew the Israelites were from Jamaica.
(And don’t bring up Desmond Decker!)
LOL!
I know the Bible fairly well but was even doubting myself when I saw Samson in the movie.
I yanked out my Bible and it confirmed that Samson was not from Jamaica. :)
That said, the English accents annoy me.
Good point however there are many young folks who haven’t darkened the doorway of a church and while I’m a believer in raw gospel I can also appreciate the effort to plant a seed.
The Jackie Chan kung-fu by the Asian angel was a little over the top... :)
Exactly!
It is violent!
As I said in a previous post the kung-fu by the Asian angel was a little much for me...
‘The Bible’ Producers Couldn’t Find Jesus Until He Came Walking Through Their Garden
Thank you for recalling that passage from St Paul’s letter. That is what I have been saying. It doesn’t matter what the motives are by those presenting the stories, if just one person is prompted to open the Bible and read, it will have been worth it. Sure the film is wrong in a lot of ways, but if a person knows nothing at all about the stories, what does it matter as long as they are moved to curiosity about the source of the stories.
I believe that the article was “tongue in cheek”. He was making fun of Hollywood.
Yes, the Cosby videos are just great. I used to go to one of the comedy clubs every so often. Jay Leno also pretty much upholds the same comedy standards.
I don't know. Angels are described many times in the Bible as warriors.
I figure angels could pretty much kick some serious ass.
Duck Dynasty is another show confounding Hollywood. Phil Robertson said “Hollywood has entered the Kingdom of God. But they don’t know it.”
