New Pope Francis I is a conservative in the mold of his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI and Pope John Paul II. Thats especially true on the issue of abortion, which he called a death sentence for the unborn in 2007. We arent in agreement with the death penalty, he said during that speech, but in Argentina we have the death penalty. A child conceived by the rape of a mentally ill or retarded woman can be condemned to death.
In his writings, Francis wrote, we should commit ourselves to eucharistic coherence, that is, we should be conscious that people cannot receive holy communion and at the same time act or speak against the commandments, in particular when abortions, euthanasia, and other serious crimes against life and family are facilitated. This responsibility applies particularly to legislators, governors, and health professionals.
Francis is also anti-euthanasia: Today, he wrote, elderly people are discarded when, in reality, they are the seat of wisdom of the society. The right to life means allowing people to live and not killing, allowing them to grow, to eat, to be educated, to be healed, and to be permitted to die with dignity.

So true...all about the scandal, none about the good works done in places like Haiti, slums, crisis pregnancies, etc.
We are a retired Navy family and know Jax, Mayport and St. Augustine well. Beautiful part of the country, hubs is a big golfer, his best bud is the XO of NS Mayport. Wonderful place to live, congrats!
Not too long ago, some guy was in our little parish church in Suffolk, VA wearing a shirt that had on the back: “You can’t be a Democrat and a Catholic at the same time”. Pretty neat and gutsy!
Cheers....
I bet the popular PA/DE Biden ignores the new pope on that point.
Outstanding! Time to let the likes of John âLive Shotâ Kerry and Bella Pelosi know that Catholicism isn’t a âpick and chooseâ proposition and that the âpick and chooseâ folks are at the Unitarian/Universalist (or “Reform” Judaism) joint down the street.
Biden, the apostate, will be representing the US at the official Mass for the Pope. This is , as usual, a big mistake and a poke in the eye of the RC and all Christians. Boehner is a real practicing RC and should be sent instead of Biden.
well sawgrass is one of the best places to play golf for him \and I love this republcian conservative county St Johns county
He’s played it many times - it’s where the XO lives - and good for St. John’s. Too bad greater Jax is so sad in their elected officials....
He sure does! Yesterday I didn't notice things like that. Someone else posted a Star Wars character that bore a resemblance too.
even more than it’s always been.
No, if a confessor is not sincere about the error they made in sin, especially a serious sin, such as abortion it would not count as a valid confession. So, a women just can't go out get an abortion and plan on going to confession to get their sin struck from the record, unless they are truly sorry for their actions, and make amends not to do it again. Of course, there are many cafeteria Catholics that just pick and choose what they want to believe and don't even think twice about the impact that supporting abortion or homosexuality has on their soul. They think these things are ok so confession is not needed for them concerning these matters. Reconciliation, is an ongoing process in the CC, serious Catholics try to make a sincere effort to walk in the light, we stumble, but we continue to try to conquer our sin to get closer to God. Attempting to fool God in reconciliation will not achieve salvation and practicing Catholics know that.
“Why limit to politicians? Anyone who approves of killing babies needs the wrath of God.”
His comment don’t limited at all, but put emphasis on those with the most influence on and control over others. From the article above: “We should be conscious that people cannot receive holy communion and at the same time act or speak against the commandments, in particular when abortions, euthanasia, and other serious crimes against life and family are facilitated. This responsibility applies particularly to legislators, governors, and health professionals.
Wow, you sure are pushing my theology knowledge tonight. Lol. If you are denied communion in the Church it is because you are in a state of mortal sin. Many of these so-called Catholic politicians support pro-abortion policies, so a bishop like Joe Biden's bishop (btw this actually happened) will tell the archdiocese to refuse Biden communion because he supports policies that are directly opposed to the Catholic faith. Excommunication is done by the Pope and casts someone out of the Church, although this is rarely done. There is also another form of excommunication called "self excommunication," which is done when a Catholic fully and knowingly rebukes the teachings of the Catholic Church. I think one of the reasons why excommunication isn't practiced more is because a pol like a Biden or Pelosi could have a change of heart, maybe a conversion, decry the policies they once supported and support Christ with a sincere heart. Although, I highly doubt the just mentioned scenario would happen, but it has happened in the past with some Church figures such as Augustine, so it can't entirely be ruled out. I also think the Church doesn't practice excommunication as much because of the tax exempt status it has that is granted by politicans, which is a shame that some of these Church leaders let that drive their policies. I personally wish that excommunication would be done more in the Church especially in the cases of someone like Pelosi - they give Catholics a bad name and lead other Catholics to believe they can do whatever they want when it comes to Church doctrine. Jmo, hope this helps.
Now he needs to cast out all the packer priests.
I was born and raised Catholic and married in the Catholic church to my wife of nearly 27 years. We left the church over many disagreements with it, one of which happens to be the serving of the Eucharist to those who publicly work against the church and it's beliefs. Yes, that means the ilk of the Kennedy family and those who've been able to "buy" their way around the church's teachings on abortion, divorce, infidelity, etc..
So I personally am ECSTATIC at the stands this Pope is taking. Yes, we former Catholics do still pay attention to what the Church Leadership (including the Pope) does. I truly hope Pope Francis is a reformer.
This is such uplifting news.
