Diners will have to wait a little longer to find calorie counts on most restaurant chain menus, in supermarkets and on vending machines.
Writing a new menu labeling law "has gotten extremely thorny," says the head of the Food and Drug Administration, as the agency tries to figure out who should be covered by it.
The 2010 health care law charged the FDA with requiring restaurants and other establishments that serve food to put calorie counts on menus and in vending machines.

Government-mandated things that have saved millions of lives:
1. Fast-talkers reading fine print on radio ads
2. Ladder labels so thick you can’t find the ladder underneath
3. California Prop 65 labels that tell you EVERYTHING you buy, touch, or use causes cancer.
Food labels are just as useful.
Maybe we’ll end up like in euro tourist traps. Everything labeled in grams per serving. Then you order the dish and the price is double as the normal serving is double the amounts labeled.
I wonder if the FDA knows that all the calories in doughnuts escape through the hole in the middle.
What I want to know is: How come the new interest in what we eat? Only a 16 ounce beverage today. Will it be only one box of cereal tomorrow? Is Stalin back to starve the people into submission? What is the end goal?
