DENVER (AP) -- A gun control package pushed by Colorado Democrats cleared the state Senate on Monday, as sponsors described it as a needed response to Colorado's blood-soaked history of mass shootings.
One Democrat after another rose Monday to talk about restricting gun rights after last July's shooting at a suburban Denver movie theater. The vote came on the eve of an expected plea by the alleged gunman, James Holmes, who is accused of killing 12 people and injuring dozens more.
The measures approved by the Senate included a limit on the kinds of high-capacity ammunition magazines Holmes is accused of using in the theater shooting. Other measures included expanded background checks on private gun sales and a new ban on gun ownership for people facing domestic violence charges.
Republicans argued in vain that the gun controls would not have prevented the theater shooting, nor the school massacre last December in Newtown, Conn. Some cited the 1999 Columbine High School shootings outside Denver.
Democrats stood firm.

As if those who created the “blood soaked history” would give a rip about new gun laws. No wonder the folks think politicians are ignorant.
Sayonara, Magpul!
What a crock. I traveled much of Colorado for many years. I know the natives, especially away from the cities. They have been overun by many from CA since then, but I suspect the Commie Dems will pay a dear price at the next elections. There are a lot of hunters and shooters in CO.
Had all these bills been in effect, none would have changed anything about the Aurora tragedy.
This is just Democrats using a tragedy to gin up enough emotion for them to use to ram through part of their agenda.
Never thought this Rocky Mountain state would go weenie.
Live long enough, see everything.
Make no mistake, ignorance is not an issue with gun control. Their is a specific agenda and they know exactly what they are attempting to accomplish.
Not only have I’ve been following this debacle, I work for a company in Denver (although I work remotely in another state).
I’ve been forced to decide whether I want to stay on with this company, as they’re involved in the media branch, and mostly lib infested.
Time to go job hunting I guess...
“Never thought this Rocky Mountain state would go weenie.”
Yeah, know what you mean. But, as another poster correctly pointed out, the state has been taken over by Californians. These folks destroyed one state and are now bent on destroying another. Stupid is as stupid does I suppose....
Hi cap mag discussions are meaningless. It takes less than two seconds for a mag change. Furthermore anyone who carries should carry a spare mag in case of a malfunction.
This happens when you vote for democrats.
“One Democrat after another rose Monday to talk about restricting gun rights.....> of law abiding citizens <”
That should be the headline.
It ought to be a capital offense for liberals to relocate
From the bankrupt sesspools they created!
Magpul, I will buy dozens more of your magazines.
Essentially we have three types of Democrats. The naive, the honest, and the liar.
The naive and the liar is what they start with when they move into a Red state. Then when they seize power the liar starts being honest. Colorado had a ton of naive Democrats. That allowed the liars to take control. Now the question is if the naive Democrats will stop being Democrats and start knocking down the liars and the honest Dem alike.
Look to the Northeast. Sixty years ago Dems were a minority. Conservatism was fairly popular. Since then it’s been nearly eradicated there.
The purpose of the Democrat is to eradicate conservatism. Conservatism doesn’t exist to eradicate Democrats. So it’s a fight only they’re winning because they’re the only ones throwing the punches.
Please Colorado Tanker: Don’t confuse the Democrats with the truth. Otherwise, they would be Republicans.
Cry for me Colorado!
