Of course there are dishonest cops, just like there are dishonest doctors, politicans and Catholic priests. You made a common mistake when you chose to indict an entire profession with your "every cop I ever knew" observation.
I have cops in my family who have served in the Bronx and Brooklyn. My father was a member of the FBI. I can assure you none of these men carried a throw away weapon. And they did indeed choose a profession of personal sacrifice and threat because specifically because they wanted to serve the public. Questioning athority is fine. Talking out of your ass is not.
BTW, the papers are reporting today that Kimani 'Kiki' Gray was a member of the Bloods gang, and no one is denying that the gun was in his posession.
i don’t say every cop does it. but it is a common practice and in some areas it is more normal than not.
and i have cops in the family too.
and don’t say they never lie. they back each other up on false or half-truths all the time. cops are given the benefit of the doubt they don’t lie and it’s abused.
the most glaring examples are caught on citizens’ videotapes when they don’t know they’re being recorded. or they think their dashcam is off.
to sit there and believe it hardly ever happens is just as dumb as saying they all do it. it’s a real problem and it varies by department, and generally the bigger the department the bigger the problem.
