My post was tongue-in-cheek...
An illegal alien who has been here for 27 years and has to have an interpreter to tell the TV reporter that he loves living here in the US and doesnt want to be deported is a farce...
Plus while I as an immigrant back in 1971 I had to promise I would not apply for welfare and signed a document that stated I understood I would or could be jailed and deported if I did apply, illegal aliens are under no such threat..
I paid taxes as soon as I started work after receiving my green card.. the Alien Registration Card..
Citizenship..Everything I had to do BEFORE I arrived here was leading to future citizenship...
If i was good enough to immigrate, I was good enough to be a citizen ...
When I arrived here I only needed time in country...
Felonies I would have been deported after I served in prison, misdemenours I could be deported...and never invited back either situations..
Pasing the test...I had 20 oral questions none from any ready list...I got one on the number of SC justices wrong instead of 9 I said 12...I remember that shame now 38 years later..
I also had to prove I could speak, understand and write English..
and I was from an English speaking country, New Zealand...
But hey that was in another universe...
Not a bad universe either.
