Paul’s Real Beef Isn’t Domestic Drones (It's that pesky killing of Islamic terrorists he hates!)
Commentary ^ | 3/6/2013 | Johnathan Tobin

Posted on 03/10/2013 5:56:32 AM PDT by RaceBannon

As of this writing, Senator Rand Paul is still on his feet filibustering the nomination of John Brennan to be director of the CIA. But as he eventually made clear, his goal is not so much to actually stop Brennan, as it is to make a meal of the comments made this morning by Attorney General Eric Holder when he was pressed about U.S. policies on drone strikes on terrorists during an appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee. When asked whether the government considered it had the right to use an armed drone on an American citizen within the borders of the United States, Holder didn’t give the senators a straight answer. They were entitled to such an answer, as well as to the documents they requested. But those who are now saying that the dustup over using drones in the United States is the sole point of Paul’s filibuster hasn’t been listening closely to him as he held the Senate floor.

No one is proposing to kill innocent Americans.

Bull sh*t! Call it "collateral damage" if you want to.

The AGM 114M Hellfire Missile has a 9kg (roughly 20 lb explosive weight) blast/fragmentation warhead for use against light vehicles and 'soft' targets. I would expect a minimum kill radius of 30 meters. Drop one of those in on a family reunion or concert... You're going to bag some "innocents". Unless the target is caught alone in the middle of an empty football field, someone else is going to get hurt--maybe a lot of someones.

I figure the tactic will be to pop one into the home and blame it on a "gas explosion". Of course, the BATFE and FBI will be there to pick up the pieces during the investigation (and remove any evidence).

Pure deniability from there, unless some kid pulls an identifiable missile fragment out of their bedroom wall--but SOP is to clear the people out of the area of a 'suspected gas leak' (until it is declared safe, however long that takes) which gives plenty of time to look for holes in walls and broken windows so they can get the rest.

Ignoring the constitution is ALWAYS worse than obeying it. If that’s a problem for you there are plenty of other countries for you to live in.

You are free to hold that opinion, provided only that you also recognize that Barack Obama reserves the right to personally determine who is and who is not a terrorist.

I've come to believe that there are those who deliberately desire that the war on Islamism be a perpetual war.

yes and those people are called ISLAMICS or MUSLIMS and that war you speak of will end for them when all the world is Islamic or dead. this has been going on since the pedophile Mohammed started his perverted cult.

Actually, it is deeper than that.

A philosophical reason is that “On the president’s own initiative(1), and without congressional approval(2), he can, with minimal expense(3), conduct acts of war in other nations(4).”

(1) Obama has already *delegated* target selection to an underling not approved by the US senate. So some faceless guy in the White House puts out kill orders in aggressive acts against other nations.

(2) In effect, this ends the War Powers Act, because as “unique” acts, as far as Obama is concerned, the Act does not apply.

(3) There is no inherent risk to American lives (excepting targets), and if the drones are prepositions, the entire cost is the price of the flight, resulting maintenance, and replacement cost of the weaponry.

(4) No mistake, these are acts of war, violating other nations airspace, in contravention of international treaties, to attack one or more of their citizens. Were the tables turned, we would be nationally enraged.

Tobin’s picking the wrong fight and putting a target on his own mindset in the process.

“perpetual war” against Islamist terrorists.

This so-called war on Islamist terror is a fraud.

  1. Our borders are wide open.
  2. Tens of thousands of Islamics immigrate legally and illegally into the country every year.
  3. Several defacto Islamic colonies have been established in the country and nothing is done. See Dearborn, MI
  4. The US government financed, armed, and used AlQaeda terrorists to attack Libya in 2011.
  5. The US government is financing, arming, and using AlQaeda terrorists to attack Syria right now!

The so-called War on Terror is just a propaganda campaign to scare gullible Americans into giving up their wealth and liberty. DHS, TSA, the Patriot Act, the NDAA, the militarization and federalization of local police was always meant for the American people, specifically the ones who won't give up their wealth or liberty without a fight.

Suppose you, as a person posting on FR, is determined a terrorist, do you think you should be killed by drone without any jury to determine that you really are a terrorist?

NO! We finally have a (R) with enough backbone to stand up and make a point, so naturally let’s be sure to question his motives and wonder why he doesn’t behave like the rest of the gutless, spineless old-school Republican insiders. Typical (R) circular firing-squad behavior.

Not this time.

I agree. And so does Rand Paul. Just read what he said.

Islam is an evil ideology that must be contained in the same way as communism. The only other alternative is to buy into the multiculturalism BS and commit suicide.

I missed the point of your post. If you are suggesting that every muslim country should be attacked, the outcome would be suicide also.

“I say if an American citizen turns out to be a terrorist, drone him”

We are not talking about terrorists. We are talking about citizens in the homeland not engaged in combat against the United States. Your post could have been written by Obama. You are all too eager to tear up the constitution in exchange for some illusory security.

The dad condemns not the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor but US for cutting off.their oil. The Nanking massacre or the Holocaust are no reasons in Pauls’ minds we can’t make friends with the killers.

Actually, we need to be careful regarding the ‘perpetual war,’ we need to recognize it in all its propagandic faces.

Would you consider 0bama creating a perpetual war by defunding the military? By keeping America always on the brink of danger with islamics? By using the islamic threat to further his agenda?

Is that not the tone of the question regarding drone use in the United States? If America is in a state of perpetual threat 0bama will use drones to deal with it.

No, no our leader would never put us in a state of perpertual war for his own power grabbing politics....

0bama is “Head Muslim In Charge”. He may hold the muslim threat over our heads. But his real aim is 2 fold. Muslim rule in a communist state.
