Hugo Chavez died 'in the bosom of the Church': Catholic News Agency (CNA)

Caracas, Venezuela, Mar 6, 2013 / 12:01 pm (CNA).- A source in Venezuela has revealed to CNA that President Hugo Chavez died “in bosom of the Church” and received spiritual direction and the sacraments in his last days.

In announcing Chavez’s death to the nation on March 5, Vice President Nicolas Maduro said the Venezuelan leader died “clinging to Christ.” The source in Venezuela told CNA that during the last weeks of his life, Chavez requested spiritual direction and asked to receive the sacraments.

Ever since he assumed power in 1999, Chavez butted heads continuously with the Catholic Church over statements by the bishops warning of the risks and excesses of his Socialist agenda. In 2002, Chavez accused the Venezuelan bishops of being a “tumor” for his revolutionary goals and demanded that the Vatican not intervene in the internal affairs of the country.

In recent years, Chavez occasionally took part in the religious services of distinct denominations, but he surprised the press in April 2012 when he showed up at a Catholic church in his hometown of Barinas to attend Holy Week services. He wore a rosary around his neck and prayed for strength to fight his illness. Last July, Chavez made public his request to meet with the Catholic bishops.

After Chavez’s death, the Archdiocese of Caracas, led by Cardinal Jorge Urosa who is currently in Rome for the conclave, sent its condolences

The secretary general of the Bishops’ Conference of Venezuela, Bishop Jesus Gonzalez de Zarate, called for national unity. “At this time let us all put forth our best sentiments,” he said during an interview on Venezuelan television. “Death is not the end of our life,” he added. “Death only opens the way to a life of complete happiness, at the side of God our Father.”

c) Hitler was a communicant and an altar boy in the Catholic Church.
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Was_Adolf_Hitler_an_altar_boy

His father’s efforts at Hafeld ended in failure and the family moved to Lambach in 1897. There, Hitler attended a Catholic school located in an 11th-century Benedictine cloister whose walls were engraved in a number of places with crests containing the symbol of the swastika. Impressed by the beauty of the church and accepted by the monks as an altar boy and member of the choir, Hitler dreamt fleetingly of becoming a Benedictine monk.

http://hitlertriumphant.wordpress.com/about/

Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889, at Braunau am Inn, Austria, a small town in Upper Austria, on the border with Germany. He was the fourth of six children of Alois Hitler (1837–1903), a customs official, and Klara Pölzl, Alois’s niece and third wife. Of these six children, only Adolf and his younger sister Paula reached adulthood. Alois Hitler also had a son (Alois Junior) and a daughter (Angela) by his second wife. In Mein Kampf Hitler describes his father as an “irascible tyrant,” although there is little indication that Alois Hitler treated his son more strictly than was usual for that time and place. Adolf’s strict Catholic upbringing was typical for the region. He served as an altar boy and sang in the choir but was not a practicing Catholic as an adult, though in public discourses he continued to frequently claim he was a Christian.[1]

Looks like Cardinal Urosa has been a true pastor. Despite being publcly insulted and humiliated by Chavez, he turned the other cheek and provided ministry to him in his last days.

Anyone who criticizes the Church on this one has never read the Bible and is not a Christian.

Baloney.

The Catholic church is acting hypocritically on this and it appears that everyone but the Catholics see it and recognize it.

And admit to it.....

Now why do I get the feeling that the ones calling loudest for Chavez to be eternally damned, would be the first to squawk at the idea of Purgatory..

I recognize a couple, who, like many RCs, judge that he was damned, but which is where the evidence points to, and that, like a priest says of Teddy K., he lived in an objective state of mortal sin, and thus was not qualified for a RC funeral, and would not even be a candidate for purgatory - if it existed.

If Chavez truly had faith in Christ in his heart when he died, then IMHO he was saved. But I SERIOUSLY doubt it.

Not if he thought the Catholic religion would save him.

Baloney, again. Those are not calls for him to be damned.

They’re merely observations on his likely destination based on his life.

There’s a huge difference between the two. If you cannot distinguish that, your judgement is poor.

Nor was my post 69 a call for him to be damned. My post had nothing to do with his destination, so it’s disingenuous to try to even include it.

bovine excrement
People talked about God’s Mercy.
People said based on his life, he is probably in hell.
Not ONE person said he was damned, as a matter or course, they all said it is probably, based on his own life.

I can understand why a church or an individual Christian would want to give the opportunity to someone to repent and embrace Jesus and his message while they lived. I do not understand why a church would support those who lived unrepentant lives, who twisted their teachings, who actively worked against their teachings, some kind of huge honor in death.

Chavez, Kennedy, and lots of others. The church reaction to them on their death just seems wrong. I can understand why the Marxists such as Jesse, and Sean Penn et al would grieve, but why a church would want to put some kind of official stamp on an unrepentant brigand is beyond me. The RC does a lot of fine things, it seems this is not one of them.

RC believers, please explain this if you would. Before death, I can understand the attempts, after.........it just seems flat out wrong.
