It's a faux fur fakeout — Marc Jacobs jackets being sold at Century 21 department stores actually contain dog hair.
Even if the labels say otherwise, the “faux fur” garments sold by the retailer are made with the fur of cuddly Chinese raccoon dogs, a breed that’s often skinned alive for its soft coat.
Tests arranged as part of an undercover probe by the Humane Society and state Assembly member Linda Rosenthal (D-Manhattan) identified various items hawked by Century 21 as containing real canine fur, disgusted shoppers found out Thursday.

It’s like the horse meat controversy ... who cares, fur is fur and meat is meat. Just because they are considered pets in some countries doesn’t mean they should be excluded from other uses. How many of us have pet fish and yet we eat fish ...
Of course false advertising is another thing.
I would tend to agree, but have grave reservations when I see claims of "skinned alive".
What you do with an animal after you humanely kill it is one thing. To torture an animal like the Chinese apparently do with dogs (dunking them in boiling water to skin them) before eating, or taking the fur while still alive is just evil.
This is absolutely horrific.

So you have no problem with the dogs being slowly skinned alive. Wow.
Putting words in my mouth. Never said I agree with skinning them alive, just that I didn’t see any difference between the meat of a dog and any other meat.

It is illegal to import items made of dog or cat fur into the US.
It should not be difficult to devise a biochemical assay to reveal whether items are made of dog, cat, or a more acceptable animal.
I could open a business doing that...
And my whole argument was about the use of dog fur in clothing and dog meat as food ... not about the boiling alive of animals (even though we think nothing of dropping a live lobster into boiling water). I would think that we, as a civilized country, wouldn’t need any comment on this barbaric practice.
Big difference between dogs and fish. Fish can’t even recognize you; dogs give unconditional love. Not as big, but there’s a big difference between cattle and horses, too.
The Indonesians put a dog in a sack and beat it to death to tenderize the meat.

Could be worse though, he could have carried a dog suffering from diarrhea home in a pet carrier on the roof of the car.
A pet, is a pet, be it a fish or an elephant. Telling a child that their pet fish is dead and telling a child their pet dog is dead amounts to the same thing.
As for differences between a cow and a horse ... cows, in general, are not cute, horses are, therefore we have no problems eating a cow, but a horse is different.
In our culture horses and dogs are considered pets therefore we have problems with the idea of using them for food ... not so in many cultures worldwide.
Having had the occasion to live in a Montinyard village back in the day, food was food and dog was food just like chicken was in our country. However, I will admit, the animals were dead before skinning.
I have to wonder if the report is totally falsified. Marc Jacobs is a direct competitor of Michael Kors for purses and other items.
Michael Kors turned out to be a big, big Obummer fan. This sort of resembles Clinton’s attack on Microsoft after his buddy from Netscape Navigator donated large sums to his campaign.

I am sure there is a relevant point to that comment that pertains to torturing mammals prior to eating them or using them for ornamentation...................
Dogs are “man’s best friend”. The same can’t be said for, e.g. a mink.
Your inability to discern these differences doesn’t mean that the differences aren’t important.
And you are right. The “dog as mans best friend” is a western concept, however it is not a concept held world over. And as a person born in the western world I understand the concept of ‘dog as best friend’, I own several and would never consider eating any of them ... unless I was starving to death.
I am wondering if the report is true as well. I didn’t know about the connection you pointed to but over the years I have learned not to trust many groups that claim to protect animals. I would want to see an independent lab test before believing this story.
Unfortunately I believe it. Probably going on as we speak right now in fact.

Agree completely. Consumers should know what they are supporting in buying garments made from these animals.
