Michael Smerconish Leaves Syndication For SiriusXM

Syndicated host Michael Smerconish, based at CBS’ 1210 WPHT Philadelphia will depart terrestrial radio for satellite on Monday, April 15.

The program will air on SiriusXM’s “POTUS” (Channel 124) Political Talk channel in the 9am to 12pm Eastern time slot.

In the AP story announcing the move, Smerconish has some fairly harsh words regarding the state of political talk on broadcast radio.

"The only people that I meet for whom the issues are hard left or hard right, the only people who see the world through ideological glasses, are those who have a microphone in front of them"

Smerconish, who had been syndicated by Dial Global since 2009, has been heard on WPHT for over a decade. He hosted mornings until the addition of his syndicated show moved him to afternoons and later a live local show

In Boston he had aired on WTKK 96.9; their program director Grace Blazer (now at a station in Fla.) had developed him at The Big Talker WPHT 1210 Philadelphia.

Interesting SiriusXM dumps Fox News Radio, but puts Smerconish in a prime spot on its supposedly bi-partisan (yeah right) POTUS channel.

I admit I never listened to Fox News Radio anyway, but I do enjoy listening to the live Fox News Channel feed on SiriusXM fairly often...

yes I have XM too and haven’t bothered to replace the channel Fox News Radio was on and it still says “Channel No Longer Available” when I hit the button (we’re talking about a talk channel here, whereas the simulcast of Fox News Channel is
still on and from what I understand is among their most

Me too, but try dialing it up at 2 pm on a Sunday: you'll get an announcement that 'This channel is currently off the air', with 'Programming Returns Later' on the display. Go up the dial one click to Sirius Left, and they're spewing their commie dreck. I am seriously considering cancelling the service over this.

Yeah that is annoying that they don’t have anything on Sunday now.. I recently traded in my car and got a used Cadillac XLR (2 seater hard top convertible) just because I always wanted one, and it doesn’t have XM. But I am thinking of either trading in to get a newer XLR-V with satellite radio, or putting in a new system with satellite capabilities. Next year I’ll decide on that trade.
