Carly Rae Jepsen has cancelled her performance at the national Boy Scouts of America Jamboree because of the organization's exclusion of gays.
Call Me Maybe singer Jepsen made the announcement Tuesday on Twitter.
'As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer,' she wrote.
'I always have and will continue to support the LGBT community on a global level and stay informed on the ever changing landscape in the ongoing battle for gay rights in this country and across the globe.'
Rock band Train also has taken a stand, but pursued a different tack in a post on its website Friday.
The group asked the BSA to reconsider its policy rather than immediately pull out of the July gathering in West Virginia.
The event, held once every four years, is expected to draw more than 45,000 scouts and adults.
Members of Train said Friday in a message on their website that they were unaware of the policy barring gay scouts and adult leaders from participating in the organization before agreeing to perform.
'Train strongly opposes any kind of policy that questions the equality of any American citizen,' the statement said.
'We have always seen the BSA as a great and noble organization. We look forward to participating in the Jamboree this summer, as long as they make the right decision before then.'
Deron Smith, publicity director for the BSA, says the organization is moving forward with plans for the Jamboree.
'We appreciate everyone's right to express an opinion and remain focused on delivering a great Jamboree program for our Scouts,' Smith wrote in an email.
Smith was unaware of any other performers scheduled to participate in the event.

How BRAVE!!!
</SARCASM>
My instant reaction to the topic headline!
Another ditsy chit hoisted on the petard of their own stupidity.
I guess it never occurs to the supporters of “gay rights” that “heterosexuals” also have rights.
Ditto -- who?
I cannot understand how men can be sexually attracted to each other. It’s sick! It’s a total perversion of nature.
Bye, Carly.
Oh thanks! Easy pickings for me there, but glad someone got it. I wonder sometimes ;)...course we may not have too many folks terribly familiar with this vapid, transient pop song.
On the other hand, maybe the BSA is happy that she is not performing as she did not make it a point to advertise her “Queer Friendly” approach to life and moral values when she was booked in the first place.
Who?....Who?.....Who cares?
Agreed. Boy Scouts need to get rid of the people who hired these performers, her video is about how she is trying to hookup with this guy and he isn’t interested in her because he likes guys.
No, unfortunatley, it’s becoming the norm at big Scouting events.
Certainly not at any of the Scouting events we’ve been to.
The last two big ones I was at, Baltimore Area Council’s 100th anniversary of sacouting campout featured country singer Aaron Tippin (actually a good show) then the 100th anniversary of the Council campout last year had some “world famous” band no one had ever heard of. It was “post grunge” and basically a boring show. None of the 5000 kids or adults engaged with the bands.
Somehow, these guys get in in their heads we need manu=or league entertainment. To be fair, they also had a world class laser light and fireworks show at both events worth the price of admission.
One campout was at Ft. McHenry (yea, that Ft. McHenry)and lasers were lighting up the Baltimore skyline.
I went to the 75th BSA Anniversary National Jamboree at Ft A.P. Hill (1985).
We had the Beach Boys. It was a lot of fun actually.
I don’t know who she is, but why is she against the Right to Freedom of Association?
What is wrong with these people? I wouldn’t send my daughter off to camp with grown men anymore than I would send my young son off with a pack of gay men. It’s the same thing. This argument doesn’t even make sense.
Given that you and I likely agree on this issue and what we think of Jepsen’s stand on it, do we really need to argue over what music we like?
LOL
