Was he aware that the war was over?..........
Some 15,000 Red Army soldiers and more than a million Afghans were killed in a decade of fighting between a Soviet-backed government in Kabul and mujahideen fighters armed by the West and Islamic neighbours.
Was he aware that the Soviet Union was over?

A Muslim gone more Muslim...not exactly Japanese soldier in the jungle...
That plot line appeared in several TV shows of the ‘60s and ‘70s.

Hey Georgy, Uzbeks drank my battery fluid.
Must have found a goat to his liking.
Those are funny! Just what I needed. Who makes them?
It was an SCTV show from about 1980. The gag was that their satellite had gotten knocked off course and instead was beaming Russian channel CCCP 1. The whole episode was like that.
I think around 9% of Uzbek’s are Christian, mostly Russians posted there by force by the government.
