Chevy Volt sales rebounded in February with G.M. reporting sales of 1,626 units....but you could benchmark February 2013 sales of 1,626 units as a big jump from February 2012 when G.M. sold 1,023 Volts

But, the very same news outfit, and the very same author, published this exactly one year ago:
"Sales of the Chevy Volt picked up significantly with General Motors reporting it sold 1,203 units in February 2012. That's nearly double the 603 Volts sold in January 2012," (link below)
So which one is it? A doubling of sales in 2012, and only a 35% jump in 2013? Or was the 'doubling' in 2012 really only a 69% increase?
It can't be both - a doubling of sales in 2012, and a 59% jump in 2013.
Its a typo...which has gone uncorrected, and been used to propogate the most Volt favorable story. I have no idea which number is correct, 1,203 or 1,023...but you'd think the exact same publication and the exact same author might set the record straight during the course of their recording.

Hindenburg is right - its easy to have large percentage jumps when the units are so small. ANY other car line would have been cancelled by now, with these sales numbers.
The Pontiac Aztec had better numbers.
It was 1,023 in Feb 12, I believe.
However, GM had to shut down the Volt production line for 5 weeks right around the end of Feb or beginning of March in 2012 due to slow sales and a large supply of Volts piling up.
I have no idea why you would think that, unless you still believe in journalism.
In a magazine called "PluginCars" do you expect journalism, or boosterism?
Interesting to me that the numbers continue to trend up over time, albeit slowly.
The Baraq Obama / Steve Chu strategy of driving up gasoline prices certainly doesn’t hurt.
The part they are leaving out is that the US Government is the primary buyer.
Even at todays prices I can buy a helluva lot of gas for the cost of a Volt and it’s sustenant electric charging.
I have to wonder how many of those sales were to government agencies.
I suspect a lot of the folks get free juice at their workplace. I know two people one with a Volt and one with a Tesla and they get free plugins at work.
They do it “for the children”, etc....
I think the slow climb in sales is due to expanding the market. They have gone from a few test markets, to nationwide distribution - with a very small increase in sales.
And we can’t discount fleet sales (GE, local government) and their influence on the numbers.
And then there’s the leases. Last August, 2/3 of Volt sales were as leases...without that, sales would have dropped sharply. Last year, the lease was 2 year at $159/month...nothing down! These count as sales...and as much as I detest the Volt concept, I am tempted to lease one at $159/month. And after collecting around $4,000 in lease fees, GM takes back a car that has easily lost 20% ($8,000) in value, plus 25% of the warranty on the battery ($2000). So, GM (or we the taxpayers) take at least a $6,000 hit...but it counted as a ‘sale’.
This shell game can’t last forever (or can it?).
And the one thing Barry and Chu can’t change - there are alot of other cars out there that genuinely get better mileage than the Volt. So, not even their efforts to run up gas costs will drive consumers to the Volt.
Sooner or later sales should drop....at least I hope so.
IIC, Obama hired GE CEO. GE got Federal bucks for their plug in stations. They are tesating thier stations with the Volt. Pure profit!!
HEY!!
What goes down the Memory Hole is supposed to STAY down the Memory Hole.
Good news comrades!!
The Ministry of Plenty has announced the chocolate ration has been increased 59% to 4 grams.
Anyone see one of these on the road yet??
The ration list may include chocolate, but shall any actually be distributed?
Or has chocolate, too, become one of those things that is, unaccountably, in very short supply, and the quota cannot be met for this month??
Increasing 59% of nothing is still nothing.
So no chocolate for you this month, fella.
