I was born in 1940 and some of my earliest memories are of over hearing talk about the war. I guess when the war was over and the pictures of the emaciated Jews were in the newspapers, I wondered what my parents were so upset about so I sneaked a peek. OMG! The shock was horrible for a 5 year old child. I admit that I have never been able to completely forgive Germany for electing Hitler and now my country has elected obama and we are headed to......... where?

Contrast this with how German prisoners were treated in the US. They knew they had it so good, very, very few even tried to escape. After the war many stayed or returned later to immigrate.

Same here, and this was a nation bombed and starved by them. German prisoners stayed in their thousands and married local women.

One of the iconic sportsman in the UK in the 1940’s and 50’s, Bert Trautmann (soccer goalie), became a much loved national treasure (especially after he played an English soccer cup final with a broken neck).

We hunted the sonofabitchs down after the war and they were executed to a man.They have recently found another tunnel at the camp where this escape took place.The movie is really good but does stray from fact but it did get the story out to a larger audience who would otherwise never had known about the bravery of all those involved.

Yep. One day I was trying to read a scientific report for work, and I could not understand it. I tried again a couple of days later. I figured it was over my head. Tried a third time, and realized that I wasn’t stupid, it was very badly written.
