If the desire is to teach it as literature, I'd think the King James Version, because of the beautiful language.
Actually, early America had no confusion about which bible to use in education.
IIRC the Bible of gay King John doesn’t enumerate the ten commandments. It has them in order, as all versions do, but it doesn’t say where the numbers go.
The Bible of a homosexual English King? It was in no way universally used or the official version of these United States.
LOL, It is as “official” a bible as a bible can be in the United States, it has always been the bible of the American people.
Not the American people who were Jewish, Catholic, not of English descent, Eastern Orthodox, etc.
No, just the 99% who were Protestant Christians, There is not, and never has been any reason for any sane person to think that there was confusion about whether America would use a Christian bible or a Jewish bible in it’s schools, like you expressed.
You seem to just be trolling on this thread.
Go for a walk and maybe your angry, nasty little attitude will go away for a few hours.
So majority determines what religion is to be given State sanction in this Republic? At a national, state or municipal level? Is the Book of Mormon to be taught in Utah? The Quran in Deerborne Michigan?
That is the way it was in New England in 1789.
Actually, the church should be teaching kids everything.
Public schools should be unnecessary.
Yep.
I guarantee this miniseries will disappoint .
I will not be watching it. I know better.
It would be more effective to read “Cliff notes”
to understand the tax code or Obamacare.
I think it was Thomas Jefferson who said, the constitutional government we have established will only work for a moral, religious people.
That would be John Adams

EXACT QUOTE:
We have no government, armed with power, capable of contending with human passions, unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge and licentiousness would break the strongest cords of our Constitution, as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
The King James Bible has 788,280 words.

Our Tax Code has nearly 4 Million words. See here:
Have public school teachers to teach the Bible? The government will then pervert another important institution with its twisted teachings. I can just imagine the curriculum.
Or the Christian Scientist or the Mormon or the Islamics?

In another thread, I know we have a divergent opinion on the matter of Barbara Jordan, who served in Congress from Texas back in the 1970s.
But concerning your statement here, there is no daylight whatsoever between us. All can add is that this was very said and it's the undeniable truth. Amen, FRiend!
Everyone needs to read the article, this is not about teaching religion, don’t let a troll hijack the thread.
