Hunters and homeless people in Louisiana are righteously outraged after state health officials forced a homeless shelter to throw out nearly a ton of perfectly good venison.
The meat that had been donated to the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission could have fed more than 3,000 people. Instead, it was tossed in trash bins by officials from the Department of Health and Hospitals who say that state law prohibits the serving of venison in homeless shelters.
Not only did the officials toss the meat, they doused it with Clorox to make sure it couldnt be eaten by animals or, presumably, people.
Deer meat is not permitted to be served in a shelter, restaurant or any other public eating establishment in Louisiana, an official told Fox News in an email. While we applaud the good intentions of the hunters who donated this meat, we must protect the people who eat at the Rescue Mission, and we cannot allow a potentially serious health threat to endanger the public.
Richard Campbell, co-founder of Hunters for the Hungry, a charitable group that donates wild game to shelters, said hunters across the state and in Mississippi are outraged about the statement and the waste.
The states health Gestapo got involved after someone at the shelter complained about being fed deer meat, a staple in many countries across the globe and considered by most people to be a treat or a delicacy.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2991670/posts ~ much better thread from this morning with further references of use to anyone really concerned.
Reminds me of the Department of Candles in some Ayn Rand novel, I’ve forgotten which one.
probably not ~ check: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2991670/posts
I read that there is a hemoragic virus going through the deer herds and that could be the reason they are preventing the consumption of that deer meat.
I’ll tell you one thing.I sure as hell would not want to get that type of virus. You’ll bleed from every orifice of your body.
I’ll grill you some backstrap with sea salt, cracked pepper, wrapped with Wright Bacon, brushed with EVOO. Filet Mignon will pop into your mind as soon as it hits yer tongue. Ribs, and butt are great. The rest is processed into sausage, heavy on the sage. Yum-yum!
It is a violation of the law to waste game. If a private citizen did this they would be in a world of hurt!
the absolute best Summer Sausage and Jerky that I’ve ever had was venison.
Some guys really have it mastered.
LOL, I have no doubt that is true. I would be willing to bet, however, this same slime bag eats fish, chicken, beef and maybe pork, if he isn't a Muzzie. Again, what a country.
Feed em horsemeat instead. Buy em Whoppers from Burger King.
Its time to say ‘no’.
This is nuts.
Shelter meals are free right? I would've politely suggested the person enjoy the free meal or feel free to fast for the day. The gall of some people...

According to the Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources, this virus is unlikely to infect humans. That doesn't mean it couldn't mutate. Since deer are prone to a number of diseases, it's always a good idea to cook the meat thoroughly. Deer are also prone to a wasting disease similar to mad cow. While there is no evidence about its transmissibility to humans, it is probably a good idea to avoid eating nervous tissue, found in the brain and bone marrow. Mad cow type diseases remain infectious even after cooking.
When I was a kid here in my rural Northern California county
fresh roadkill deer helped to feed the jail inmates. We have
come a long way.........all downhill.
Deer and most all wild game only eat what nature intended for them to eat....
Cattle, chickens, and hogs are force fed growth hormones and chemical compounds to ensure a heavier and larger product...
Which sounds “healthier” to you????????
Sometimes it feels like liberals are evil...
