POPE Benedict XVI admitted it sometimes felt as if 'God was asleep' during the troubled days of his papacy as he gave an emotional farewell in St Peter's Square before tens of thousands of pilgrims on the eve of his momentous resignation.

Pope's final address: God was asleep on my watch Pope Benedict XVI gave an emotional farewell speech to tens of thousands of faithful in St Peters Square, saying there were times during his eight-year papacy when it seemed that the Lord was sleeping.
Psalm 121:4 would suggest otherwise.
Really?

“My God my God why have you forsaken me?” said Jesus from the cross. He probably felt the same way.
But I always knew that the Lord is in that boat and I always knew that the boat of the Church is not mine, not ours, but is His. And the Lord will not let it sink. He is the one who steers her, of course also through those He has chosen because that is how He wanted it. This was and is a certainty that nothing can tarnish. And that is why my heart today is filled with gratitude to God, because He never leftthe whole Church or mewithout His consolation, His light, or His love.
What an odd thing to say, God Himself says He neither sleeps or slumbers.
It has been reported that BXVI is nearly blind in one of his eyes.
You are kidding right?
Many saints have experienced the “dark night of the soul”, for example, St. Therese of Lisieux. Even Mother Teresa lamented the times that she could not feel God’s presence.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if God turned his back on the world. We have turn our back on him.
He said it sometimes “felt like” God was asleep or absent, not that he actually was. See post #6.
God sees the fall of a sparrow, but to a human observer of the kind of terrible things we’ve seen going on in our Church—and also in our country—it’s not always obvious that God is watching.
And consider those words of Jesus on the Cross, already quoted: “My God, my God, Why hast thou forsaken me?” Why? Because the Father chose to put the full sacrificial burden on His Son.
There have also been moments in which the waters were turbulent and the wind contrary, as throughout the history of the church, and the Lord seemed to be asleep," he said. "But I have always known that the Lord is in that boat and that the boat of the church is not mine, it is not ours, but it is his and he does not let it sink...."
The Telegraph gave their coverage of the final address the provocative title Pope's final address: God was asleep on my watch
Reporters always look for a way to take something out of context.
The reporter is a tool of Satanic force.
Period.
The reporter is a tool of Satanic force.
To paraphrase Gen. W. T. Sherman,
“If we killed all the reporters in the morning, there would be dispatches from Hell by noon”...
Of course, that never stopped some posters here from gleefully piling on if it fits their agenda.
Just watch.
Yours would appear to be the correct analysis.
Maybe so,but my broad brush tends to bring a bit of attention at times.
