Hickenlooper Will Support Bill Limiting Gun Magazine Rounds (CO)

DENVER (CBS4) – Gov. John Hickenlooper says he will support Rep. Rhonda Fields’ bill limiting rounds in gun magazines. The governor spoke with CBS4 Political Specialist Shaun Boyd about the gun control issue on Tuesday.

Some felt the governor had been going back and forth on this issue. He admitted to Boyd it’s been a hard decision and he has waffled, but now he says if the legislature passes the bill he will sign it — even if it means losing 200 jobs.

Hickenlooper says he does not think the magazine manufacturer Magpul is bluffing when it says it will leave the state if the bill passes.

The governor insisted his decisions on the gun measures are not based on any pressure from Washington. While Vice President Joe Biden has called several state lawmakers, Hickenlooper told Boyd he hasn’t had anyone from the White House contact him.

The Sandy Hook shooting in Connecticut influenced the governor’s position.

“You put yourself in the shoes of that principal and resource officer running for their lives and trying to save the kids and what’s in their minds; and him just flipping around and he’s got a 30-shot clip. He’s got two 30-shot clips taped together,” Hickenlooper said. “You’ve got to think, ‘Is the convenience of someone at a target range not having to change their clip quite so often worth the risk to citizens and people in their neighborhoods?’ ”

The governor has not decided if he will sign a bill banning concealed carry on college campuses, and he wouldn’t even comment on a bill being introduced Wednesday that would make gun retailers and manufacturers liable if their weapons are used in a crime.

“How will you enforce this law amongst the criminals who DON’T obey the laws already?”

How will he enforce it against the formerly law abiding citizens who become criminals the moment he signs the bill?

I don’t think Magpul is bluffing. They’re leaving CO. They should start a recall election on the way out.

Yep. And Coloradoans will still be able to buy high-cap magazines the same way they buy fireworks. Drive to Wyoming.

The drmocRAT politicians are mostly crimminal defense lawyers who seem to love the crimminals and hate the victims. No matter the government local, county, state, nationaal...The liberals love the crooks and hate us. The 2A was meant to stop or repress croks and tyrants. No wonder the crooks and democRATS want gun control.

It won’t be enforced very well. They may get a couple here there over a period of time, but outside of Denver/Boulder and few other lib pockets, it will be very low on the totem poll.

And Colorado, the ‘new’ New York state of Rockies, is surrounded by states where standard capacity magazine will still be available. Check me if I’m wrong ...lets see - Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and New Mexico.

I too have a six figure job and am contemplating leaving Colorado. If there were a Galt’s Gulch I’d move there, but the do-gooders have infected just about everywhere.

My impression of Colorado is that the only parts of the state that are "liberal" are Denver, Boulder, Aspen and Telluride.

Some other parts of the state -- like Pueblo -- aren't so much "liberal" as "Democrat". Because "they're for the working man"...

If you clowns hadn’t overplayed your hands on gun control, the economic control might have worked.

With States enacting unconstitutional restrictions, not possible at the Federal level, voters will unseat many a Democrat and chicken $hit RINOs.

2014 will see the wall against Obama rise long and wide.

Hey Hick!
Where in the hell do you thing all those 30 round magazines are going to go?

Damn lucky for me I live in New York instead of Colorado////// This past weekend we had a gun support rally against Cuomo’s new “farce” of a gun law, approx 1000 people showed up in Olean NY.. Besides the Sheriffs from the 4 surrounding counties speaking to thier disregard for the new rules we also had the Sheriffs from Potter and McKean counties in Pa. speak to thier disregard to the farce,it was a very good day.
