This David Weigel post on Friday reminded me that I should use the final election data to check a point I’d talked a fair amount about right after the election: that Romney ran ahead of the Republican Senate candidates in tightly contested races. My AEI colleague Caroline Kitchens went to the official state election-result sites and pulled the numbers, which are better than what we had in mid-November.
In Wisconsin, Virginia, and Texas, Romney ran just barely ahead of Tommy Thompson (by 0.03 percent), George Allen (0.3 percent), and Ted Cruz (0.7 percent), respectively.
In Nebraska, Ohio, and Arizona, Romney ran ahead of Deb Fischer (2.3), Josh Mandel (3), and Jeff Flake (4.3).
Romney performed significantly better in Michigan, Florida, North Dakota, Indiana, Montana, and Missouri than Pete Hoekstra (6.7), Connie Mack IV (6.9), Rick Berg (9), Richard Mourdock (9.8), Denny Rehberg (10.5), and Todd Akin (14.7). I had not noticed earlier that Berg and Rehberg underperformed Romney by about as much as Mourdock did.
That Romney did better than Ted Cruz in Texas should annoy quite a few people here.
How are the numbers an argument against Rove?
The others are just the tired old GOP/Karl Rove regurgitated safe names - Hoeckstra, Mack, Berg and Rehberg. If anything, this says nuts to Karl.
Except that Akin was NOT TEA PARTY at all. He was a six term congressional incumbent, and only tried to claim tea party status after he had been ushered into the General Election on the strength of McCaskill voters.
BTW, Akin’s communications consultant was a guy who was with Newt early, then bolted to Perry, then bolted to Newts super pac, so after going oh for 3, he landed with Akin, and ended up oh for 4 in 2012.
Guaran-damn-tee he made half a mill or more last year, and will be employed for 2014 if not already.

Not really sure they are, but listing all the candidates is a reminder of who was and was not a “Tea Party” candidate(whatever that is since there is no political party called the “Tea Party”). Listing them is also a reminder of who won and who lost and that does not favor Mr. Rove’s theory that Tea Party candidates cost us the election.
Rove is an arse hat. They guy tells us that conservatives can’t win and to prove his point, he ensures that they lose, after which he stands aside and says, “see, I told you so.”
No one should be surprised that Romney ran ahead of Akin and Mourdock. Both of those candidates were effectively third-party—they were running against a Democratic opponent and the Karl Rove/Mitt Romney national GOP.
Friggin Mitt depressed the down ballot vote and still loss the WH to the worst cheater in history. BTW, what did that little prick Ryan bring to the fight? Oh yeah I think I read he didn’t even help his buddy Mitt in his home state. Woohoo thanks to those moderate losers! I would not vote for Ryan, Rubio, Paul or Jeb in 2016.
Akin was not the tea party candidate, Michelle Bachmann gave us Akin.
The Tea Party Express and Governor Palin supported the female candidate, Steelman.
Brunner received the support of FreedomWorks.
Also in the FL CD18 Romney got about 7,000 more total votes than did Allen West. Had West held the Romney Votes he’d have won easily. Strange elections this year.

PALIN: No. I’m suggesting that he get out. He should have reached that deadline today, I believe, personally, and gotten out of the race, but because he did not do that, Greta, then we have to figure out, OK, well, what is next? Again, without trying to pile on Todd Akin and what he’s going through right now, maybe it is a third-party run of Sarah Steelman that I can get behind, and, granted the status quo has got to go would be an odd name for a third party, but we’ll coin it, adopt it, run with it if that’s what it takes in order to get a commonsense constitutional, happens to be pro-life woman in Missouri to clean up this mess that’s been created and at the same time take back the Senate, which means we get to take back the country and put government back on the side of the people.
An interesting comment here. I would break it down this way
The conservatives who voted for MR. Cruz also voted for romney.
The Liberals who voted for romney did NOT vote for Mr. Cruz
Many small G’ment types like myself voted Republican in the last two Presidential elections.

In Texas cornyn will be facing a Republican primary challenger, possibly more than one. This is a chance to get rid of a RINO.
Primaries are where we have a chance to force the issue, assuming that the local Republican committee has not changed the ground rules. We do NOT wont open primaries.
Akin was NOT the tea party Canidate!
