Speaking at a town hall meeting Tuesday, Kerry spoke a few sentences of passable German to the delight of a crowd in a packed Internet cafe before regaling the audience with tales of his boyhood in Berlin in 1954.
He recalled a clandestine bicycle ride into communist East Berlin. "I saw the difference between east and west. I saw the people wearing darker clothing. There were fewer cars. I didn't feel the energy or the movement."
When he returned home, Kerry said, his father "got very upset with me and said: `You could have created an international incident. I could have lost my job.' So I lost my passport, and I was grounded and I never made another trip like that."

Kerry said ,Americans have a right to be stupid ,must be talking about himself
vaudine
For Kerry to pretend that he was not (and is not) a Communist sympathizer is about as believable as when Obama (either of them, actually) pretends that he loves America...
Was this bicycle ride into East Berlin seared... seared into his memory? Obama has made some interesting cabinet selections that will serve to distract and deflect from his own idiocy. As Hillary Clinton was thrown under the bus, so too will Kerry.
"It was Christmas and I was wearing my magic hat"
“Kerry regales Berliners with tales of divided city”
I remember Berlin when it was divided. I went through Checkpoint Charlie (in uniform), walked around East Berlin, saw it myself.
Very interesting how John Kerry “regaled” about the place. We all know on which side of that “divide” Mr. Kerry stood, as a young man.
I'll be glad when the phoneys are dead and gone ... except ... I'll prolly go first.
When I was a civilian employee at Ramstein AB in the 70s some friends and I went to W. Berlin via the troop train. We traveled through E. Germany and I commented to the friends when we got into W. Berlin that it was like being in a negative print of a picture and that when we crossed the border into the West the negative print had developed into a full color picture. That was how dramatic the differences were between E. and W. Germany. Scary and that thought has stayed with me all these years.
How old would Kerry have been in 1954?
He was born in 1943, he was a eleven.....really he rode his bike into East Germany.
You don't just ride across commie border “clandestinely” ESPECIALLY ON THE BIKE, lying skunk!
Jon’s first early attempt at unilateral surrender to a fascist regime. Some people are just born with the talent.
I’m starting a twitter hashtag #johnkerrytalesofheroism
#johnkerrytalesofheroism he stowed away on apollo 13 and saved the poor frightened astronauts from certain doom.

Oh, and he had passport at 11, and he used it clandestinely????
He probable went to East to tell them how the West is bombing villages with chulren...
Hahhah hahhhaaah haaaaaaa....
Whata Sickretary of Shtate!!!
Beats Hitlery !
Too bad he didn’t run into the Stasi. He could have met “Jenjis Kaaahhn” up close and personal.
I think a better story is how he rented a plane, tried to fly under the Golden Gate Bridge but had to turn back, because he was hitting seagulls, who hit so hard they were stuck in the wing with their webbed feet sticking out.
Looks like he’s going to be fun to watch. It’s unfortunate that he has a job that can get us all killed, though.
He still has the hat...
“You don’t just ride across commie border clandestinely ESPECIALLY ON THE BIKE”
So clandestine that he used his diplo passport at the checkpoint.
