It was a better than average Oscar show last night. Host Seth MacFarlane came under fire for some less than tasteful jokes, but there were also a few terrific highlights.

All in all it was an entertaining evening, recognising some truly great cinematic achievements. However, the entrance of Michelle Obama, via video link, at the end of the ceremony to announce the Best Picture winner was a bizarre moment that was completely pointless. It was reportedly arranged by Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, a close friend of the Obamas (hat tip: Drudge Report). If the First Lady was a former actress (à la Carla Sarkozy), or had some official role in promoting the American film industry, it might have made some sense. Mrs. Obama, though, has no connection to the world of cinema.
It was a cringe worthy moment that came across as cynical liberal Hollywood pandering to a Democrat White House, a fitting match for an Obama presidency that is obsessed with show biz celebrities. As Tim Stanley noted earlier, the bias discredits both the White House and movie industry. Even the First Lady herself looked a bit embarrassed by the whole affair, and who knows what Jack Nicholson was really thinking about the spectacle.

Moochelle should have one an award for the best Mo Howard look alike with those awful bangs of hers. LOL!
She looks more like a 32 A to me.
Imagine if Laura Bush presented the award...
The left would be screaming for a month about it
There are two more threads on this since this thread.

Great candid pic of the big blob - who are these freaks??
“If Michelle was told to butt out, she’d have to make at least two trips.” - read earlier on the internet
I have often referred to Hillary Clinton as “the Flying Buttress” for her shuttle diplomacy and her keel-heavy need to wear only pantsuits.
That title will now have to be handed on after last night. The new Flying Buttress now comes wrapped in aluminum foil & has a mean looking set of teeth.
No, IMO, it was not a pointless appearance. My opinion C&P’d from another thread:
Setting up Wookievita for the 2016 coronation, of course.
All through the Obama Infestation, she has always seemed like she was telling us all where to go with her outrageous fashions and lack of attempt at looking ladylike and graceful in her position as FLOTUS. I remember thinking that, surely, she had people to teach her protocol, to tell her you dont go outside in shorts with your bra strap hanging out, that you exit a car, a plane, in a certain way etc. I concluded that she, apparently, told all of them to take a flying leap.
I found myself a little puzzled when I could see, on Inauguration Day, that she clearly had been taking lessons in walking. She was obviously trying to put one foot in front of the other, model-style, instead of her usual Frankenstein stagger. Then, she came out with the bangs recently to cover those eyebrows that make her look eternally ticked off.
It all make sense now. Soros has decreed that she will be our first female and first real black president the halfrican doesnt count.
Wookievita perhaps I should get a copyright on that.
I think the whole thing is very instructive. It shows the close ties and warm feelings the one percent people in Hollywood have for the Obamas. And it shows how inane and clueless Hollywood producers are when one of them thinks such and idea would actually go over well.
I’m wondering why Barack wasn’t interviewed for his Oscar picks.
Producing movies takes money, not talent.
Her appearance wasn’t pointless. It was part of the continuing attempt to glorify these two racist occupiers of our White HOuse.
I swear Obama and Michelle are becoming more like Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu with each passing day.
And very young wife is preggers with their second child....
Imagine that coupling if you dare!
I was watching “Saving Private Ryan” on TV for about the tenth time. Wife watched the Oscars and briefed me this morning.
While I really liked SPR, the idea that this film allows Speilberg and Hanks to wrap themselves in the flag repulses me...
Band of Brothers, though long, gives me my WWII fix...love it!
Do you think that John Ford directing and John Wayne in Hanks’ role would’ve improved SPR? “Band of Brothers” will live forever.
Nope I know why it was done.
It was to project an image to the low info voter - the kind who watches the Oscars - and tie a film about a successful rescue of embassy staff and have it obscure/transfer over to Obama and confuse the whol Benghazi failure to do anything to save a freaking Ambassador and several staff.
They see Moocher presenting this and talkign about it, and they will transfer these feelings/thoughts subtly to any criticism of Obama on Benghazi and it will play down any negatives about that.
Won’t work on us, but it will on people who like Obama and/or don’t know much about either subject.
Well, yeah...the Duke was the best!
One of my other fave WWII movies, Pacific Theatre, is “They Were Expendable”....absolutely outstanding film....
