WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- House Speaker John Boehner will hold a press conference at 4 p.m. Eastern to discuss the across-the-board budget cuts known as the sequester, his office said. Without a deal, $85 billion in gradual budget cuts will begin on Friday,

Presser underway now. Does not sound like they will fold.
Do they really need all these people in front of the camera? Just put two or three credible people (if they can find that many) out there with a powerful message and then shut up!
I’m tired of them calling this a “spending cut”. If I was on a budget I couldn’t spend more money and tell my hubby that I saved him 3%!!
that was it?
It was enough for me, they planted it right in Obamas garden.....GO BOEHNER AND STAND FIRM
It’s 4:15 . . . is he crying yet?
Well, that is a relief. There was really no reason at all to cave. Obama had the tax cuts and the sequester was his idea of a balanced approach. No public pressure because this was presumably what people voted on in November.
He will assume the BOHICA pose he knows and loves so well
‘Cause that’s what he does best.
For the first time we have the upperhand. O already got his 1% tax hike so he has lost that political capital. That argument has lost its power.
We have another debt ceiling hike coming up and now the GOP has laid the precedent that the WH has to give something in return for that.
The landscape has changed.
I think you need to step out of the echo chamber.
The cuts are going to be blamed on the GOP. The military and DOD cuts are making many of the former GOP voters very mad.
This was a very dumb move.
It is now 1830 Eastern.
What did he say?
Sheesh, I'm dying for some comments and analysis.

...with many rounds of drinks to follow...
Did he come out with a white flag?
Not sure which move was dumb....agreeing to the sequester in the first place, or not caving now. With the former, I agree. The fall of 2011 has shown to be what many of us thought it was...a complete bumbling by the congress with the stupid super committee theatrics and guaranteed defense cuts.
Now, I don’t know what this crew can do to retain a political victory. Obama will only compromise if it includes tax increases. Our side won’t and shouldn’t do that. With a better messaging team, this group could gain ground on the Dems, but I don’t see them doing it. The fact that Boehner has a widely publicized press conference and no clear message out of it to gain political footing tells me all I need to know. This crew can’t win no matter what their tactic.
Boy that was a non-event.
What event?
Oh never mind. wish I hadnt even told me wife about it now.
Why bother? We already know that he, Cantor, and McConnell and the rest of the GOP leadership will cave like they always do.
85% of Americans think that all those 800,000 jobs that are going to loose 20% plus of their salaries are all in Washington. What happens when they discover that 75% of those jobs are spread throughout the country, mostly in red states. And that is just Defense related. I was listening to impact for Homeland Security. They also have a lot of personnel which will also have these 20% plus salary/hours cuts. Coast guard, border patrol, shipping examination, border crossing, etc. The last two will be significantly slowed down. The first two will actually be out there doing less. etc. etc.
you know gleeaikin, perhaps there is a path back to the Constitution once one realizes there is only a provision for defense held within that document. Someone once said ... do not remove the safety net ... couldn’t help but laugh under my breath and think ... sorry ... there is no safety net contained therein except for defense. Was in mixed company at the time, and glad I did not blurt it out.
