Pittsburgh (AP) The story has more irony than a Greek tragedy. Three sisters from a devoutly Catholic family have seen their personal and political careers ruined by a scandal that began with, of all things, a letter to some nuns.
Thursday's conviction of suspended Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin along with her aide and sister, Janine Orie, on campaign corruption charges mean they might join a third sister former state Sen. Jane Orie in state prison. No sentencing date has been set.
The former senator was sentenced last year to 2½ to 10 years for using her state-paid staff to run her campaigns, though she was acquitted of having them campaign for Melvin, then a lower appellate court judge, who was running for the Supreme Court in 2003 and 2009. Joan Orie Melvin and Janine Orie were convicted in a spinoff investigation and found guilty of similarly misusing Melvin's former staff and the senator's.

No mention of party affiliation ... I wonder what that means?
Former PA State Sentor Jane Orie (R)
It’s amazing how many corrupt losers are always called “devout Catholics” by the liberal media.
I don’t know anyone like this. I know plenty of devout Catholics and NONE of them are like these three “devout Catholic” sisters.
No more PA republicans! No more!
BTW the (D)boy mayor of Pittsburgh is in DEEP doo doo over several things including the police chief using misusing funds.
No problem there!
This town/state needs an enema!
My exact reaction. Apparently, though, the former PA state senator was a Republican. Why this wasn’t mentioned up front by the AP is out of character and a complete mystery — destroying an almost 100% perfect record of “if party of corrupt official not mentioned, then Democrat.” Maybe they’re trying to build a defense of “equal-opportunity journalistic ineptitude.”
Surprisingly, party affiliation is only mentioned later on in the article. I say surprisingly since, with their being Republicans, I would have expected that to be put in the headline and mentioned several times in the first paragraph.
Dems here do this continually but that's not a problem because they are for the "working man."
In fact that would be a resume enhancement.
The corruption of both D's and R's here is astronomical.
“irony”.... “devoutly catholic”...
Apparently the author seems to think its funny these women will go to jail for something that Democrats would see as a minor/trivial thing.
'hack
She and her sisters were NEVER constitutional conservatives, although they led many to believe they were.
They have now cast a pox on future REAL conservatives here.
The only good things about Pennsylvania are the State Farm Show and Amish food...and sometimes the change of seasons...
According to my BIL hwo has lived in Pittsburgh for the past 30 years, the Orie sisters were the victims of political witch hunts. I agree with you, though, that they were NOT Constitutional conservatives. Better than Dems, for sure, but not great. Bob
Look at me, I'm a victim.
Witch hunt? Probably. Dems do the same thing all the time here and like I said no problem.
The Ories were party GOP RINOs similar to Ridge, Toomey, Santorum...ooo that will get things going...Corbett (another Republican governor opted to carry out the Medicaid expansion called for in Obamacare, Gov. Tom Corbett repeated his doubts about whether it would be good for Pennsylvania...but 'will go along to get along'... my words)...Schaffer, Scranton...et al.
RINOS ALL! Hillman republicans!
Not one of them worth a dang for conservatism.
The first picture to greet you when clicking the link is as mean a looking bunch of cutthroats as you would ever want to run into.
Guilty, guiltier, and guiltiest.
Rot in prison for a long, long time, all three or you Ories.
I suppose there is some hope for the other 3 sisters:
Nasty Piglosi, Diane Frankenstein, and Barbara “call me Senator” Boxer
They sure don’t look very happy.
I would hate to wake up in the morning to any of the three.
