BETWEEN SEVERAL PROTEST INTERRUPTIONS, PERRY VOWS NOT TO EXPAND MEDICAID

Washington - The crowd...was downright unfriendly. Perry was interrupted, denounced and heckled for snubbing a Medicaid exansion in his state, but he vowed not to budge.

-snip-

The unfriendliness didn't stem from members of the Texas state Society...at a ritzy Republican club.

But the Lone star State's famously anti-Washington governor faced...protestors, of the Texas Organizing Project, who popped up by turns where he spoke.

As I understand the exchanges (or market places as they have been quaintly renamed)...the Feds will subsidize Medicaid in the states for 3 years, then drop to 90 per cent and then receive no federal funding. At the same time, the Feds will determine Medicaid qualification.

IMHO, that accomplishes two goals. The Feds will govern who qualifies for Medicaid and can expand those requirements to insure people that might not qualify otherwise (get the monkey off of their back). Secondly, when the Fed funding period expires, the states will be left holding the bag with the Feds basically in charge.

It's actually a pretty cleaver strategy on the Feds part. Short term the states will be grateful for the influx of funding...long term will be a disaster.

Excuse me?

Perry could have completely opted out of Medicaid??

Tell me all about it.

There's not much to tell. Participation in Medicaid by a state is entirely voluntary. That includes Texas.

The circumstances regarding the Medicaid program of today are different from what they were through the years. It was always a disaster in the making as the years passed. It could not help but lead to a bad result, or brokenness, as Perry says.

Perry has been governor for around one quarter of the time Texas has had Medicaid. When, exactly, did times change? Perry never said anything about Medicaid before about 2010. He still hasn't vowed to kill the program completely.

Anyone who brings up Perry’s debate problem (he did better as the debates went on, but what the hay do YOU care, right?...as he got past his back surgery and pain meds difficulties)

Sorry to break it to you, but "he was high on Oxy" isn't considered a valid excuse for a sitting Governor in other states.

Portion of the purpose statement by Jim Robinson

“As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty.

We aggressively defend our God-given and first amendment guaranteed rights to free speech, free press, free religion, and freedom of association, as well as our constitutional right to control the use and content of our own personal private property. Despite the wailing of the liberal trolls and other doom & gloom naysayers, we feel no compelling need to allow them a platform to promote their repugnant and obnoxious propaganda from our forum. Free Republic is not a liberal debating society. We are conservative activists dedicated to defending our rights, defending our constitution, defending our republic and defending our traditional American way of life.

Our God-given liberty and freedoms are not negotiable.”

Note: FR is pro-limited government, pro-low taxes, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-Constitution, pro-Capitalism, and pro-freedom.

“OUR GOD-GIVEN LIBERTY AND FREEDOMS ARE NOT NEGOTIABLE.” (Rick Scott negotiated using our liberty and freedoms as bargaining chips, in return for borrowed money from the bankrupt and corrupt Feds, for a short time.)

Obamacare is the antithesis of what Jim Robinson and this site stand for. It is anti-limited government, anti-low taxes, anti-Bill of Rights, anti-Constitution, anti-Capitialism and anti-freedom.

I have nothing more to debate you about. I’m done with that. Debate Jim Robinson, or if he so chooses that you can continue flapping your yap here about Rick Scott, good, Rick Perry, bad, because your boy caved to Obamacare and you’re glad he did and think he’s real smart, but Perry didn’t and you think that’s too bad, and stupid, well, that’s up to Jim.

I love my state (Washington) but hate the politics destroying everything. I do wish we could transfer Texas policies here so I could continue to enjoy my environment... Texas is too warm for my tastes but eventually may have to sacrifice the way we’re going.

What’s the common refrain these days? “Let it Burn?” That’s my attitude right now. Politically anyway. Few stand for anything anymore and I have no hope it will recover. I would like to thank the good people like the fair Michelle Malkin and Palin surrogates for ripping Perry over a few debates. Such good conservative warriors. This country would certainly have come to an end sooner if someone of Perry’s backbone had won the presidency. and oh so glad his stance on illegals was denied fruition. That issue was certainly worth derailing every other good he offered. Not like anyone in the GOP is leading the charge to bring about a worse solution :::coughing Jeb Bush’s puppet Rubio::::

Thank you for your input.

Perry was governor when all but 4 Texas legislators voted to allow children of illegals to attend college with the same tuition rate as citizen children. IF they had attended HS three years and graduated, which by law they had to be allowed to do (a federal law) and met other requirements. He agreed with that POV, but it’s false that this was Rick Perry’s thing. It was the thing of the Texas legislature, which was controlled by Republicans.

In fact Perry has fought the Feds many years over BORDER INSECURITY. In fact Texas has used many millions of its own resources to help provide the people on our side of the border with as much security as we can muster given that the Feds policies have and are ruining our security.

But I didn’t post this thread about Perry and his “stance on illegals”, as you know.

I’m simply letting people know that Perry spoke in Washington to Texans, and he was protested by an organized re-creation of ACORN - some Texans, some not - and he said TX would not expand Medicaid under Obamacare just as it would not create a “state exchange” under Obamacare.

Previously lauded GOP governors are caving.

It makes me sick.

Perry is different. That’s all I want show.

Linked article explains why no state has ever opted out of Medicaid, explains the “fix” or mess states are caught in, explains what’s gone horribly wrong with Medicaid at the same time states are caught in the mess, explains what’s wrong with putting Obamacare on top of it.

Should States Opt Out of Medicaid? - Forbes

Rick Perry’s view of Medicaid and Obamacare is tracked dead on by this Forbes article.

I used to not like Perry for my governor. He still has plenty of flaws, but I’m warming up to him.

Looks like our Governor Bob McDonnell,
just sold our state out to the Medicaid expansionists!
They attached it to the state highway bill funding.

The other day on his show, Mark Levin praised Perry for this stand. That was quite a switch from the past for Mark. But he couldn’t resist taking a swipe at him by saying that “he’s a terrible debater but he’s really impressive in this Obamacare vs states stand” - to paraphrase.

Perry isn’t a smooth talking elitist, just as you say he’s not, I agree, but he’s not that much a terrible debater as he appeared when trying to run for President right after having back surgery and still being on pain meds.

Nearly everyone forgets that he got much better as the debates went on. They forget that he knocked every personal interview out of the park. They forget that he went on Leno and was a smash hit when joking about himself and his debate performance.
