Israel’s main bulwark in the US would be evangelicals who are currently out of power and pretty much out of favor with the establishment. The “establishment” usually has to at least pretend to favor Israel but as they lose their fear of the evangelical voter, they lose their fear of abandoning Israel too.

The funny thing is too that America has at best always been a fairweather friend to Israel. FDR had no love for the Jews. Truman probably was the only president who had some sympathy for Israel, but the state department then and now always backed off support for Israel for the same age old reason. They needed the Arabs more. Back then they didn't want Arab countries to fall into the Soviet orbit, and today, Washington sucks up to the Saudis, I guess because we need their oil. Israel for a couple decades bought its military hardware from France because the US would not supply them.
