O'Connell: No offense meant when snowman photographed in Confederate flag bikini top

TAUNTON State Rep. Shaunna OConnell said she meant no offense when she posted a photograph on Facebook showing a snowman decorated with a Confederate flag bikini top.
It was just kids having innocent fun, OConnell said. Nothing should be read into that at all.
OConnell, R-Taunton, posted the image to Facebook on Sunday, along with photographs of her children playing in the snow and a U.S. flag against a snowy backdrop.
The Confederate flag, regardless of the intent behind its display, can be a racially charged image for many Americans, said Michael Curry, president of the NAACPs Boston chapter.

Reminds me of the story on the news out of Detroit on election night 2004. A black woman was interviewed and complained that “There was a white man in there”.

Yes, but knowing how this stuff gets played, why are Rs so foolish as to hand out ammo?
It is only ammo for ignorant and weak minded people who shouldn't be opinionated.

I’d comment on it, but I can’t listen to the radio anymore.
In looking for her picture, I saw an article that talked about her opposition to using EBT cards to post bail.
Heck, that’s a good sign, if nothing else.

I have heard her as a guest on Howie Carr's (Boston area) radio show. Maybe RaccoonRadio (a Freeper) knows if this issue has been discussed on Carr's show. My guess is that it has. pinging raccoonradio and a couple of other MA FReepers...

they should have used an american flag bikini like this :
As hard as it is to imagine, SOMEONE would have had a problem with that too. Stupidity has a very broad spectrum of adherents.

Attention, Janet Jackson
If you had worn one of THESE at the Super Bowl and removed it on live TV you would have been celebrated instead of being pilloried.
To: Mr. K
perhaps we need a “flags of the world bikini page”?

I feel the same way, cripplecreek. I admit I find flags with Che Guevara’s image on them extremely distasteful and offensive, but...being a conservative, I recognize it as free speech.
Granted, there are staunchly conservative ex-Cubans who are now Americans who disagree completely with me, but...you get the idea.

Snowpeople must be racist!! Have you ever seen a black one? If you've ever been to NYC in January or February you know that there are dark gray snowmen.

The American Flag can cover a lot of things, but the mindbleach I need for that mental image that still persists is strong...
(But, I see your point!)

LOL! “Gentlemen of the Jury...”
Okay. I am sure to get my virtual hand slapped by someone for even considering this aspect, but, hey...most conservatives can appreciate a woman who has a good, conservative, thinking, logical brain AND carries it around in good looking packaging...:)

I totally agree with you....several years ago we visited the Outer Banks and my son bought a confederate flag and had it hanging in his bedroom until he moved out...one of my co-workers has a confederate flag flying from his truck...so what....and we are Yankees too...some people are too easily offended...sheesh...
