Where does it say in the Constitution that putting a terrorist in solitary is “cruel and unusual punishment”?

I’m thinking the Cruel and Unusual punishment mentioned in the Constitution reverted to how English law executed or imprisoned its law breakers. There were some pretty horrific executions performed and those jailed experienced some bad confinements. There is nothing said in the Constitution that solitary confinement is either cruel or unusual.
