Johannesburg: South Africa's Paralympic gold medallist Oscar Pistorius has been arrested after shooting dead his girlfriend having mistaken her for an intruder, media reported today.
According to the Beeld newspaper, Pistorius was arrested early Thursday following the shooting.
Police could not immediately confirm the report. The athlete know as the "Blade Runner" made history in 2012 when he became the first amputee to compete in the Olympics.
He won gold in the 4x400m relay at the Paralympic Games. He had both legs amputated below the knee before he was aged one, because of a congenital condition, and runs on carbon fibre blades.

Run Oscar, run.
That’s sad. People should be more careful when entering homes with guns, even loved ones.
Tragic mistake? Or an excuse for an inconvenient dead girlfriend?
So sad. Saw him in interviews. Seems like a nice guy.
Her ex boyfriend had a first name.
It’s O S C A R
The guy with 2 stumps shot her down
through The D O O R
He ran on blades in a big race
but couldn’t recognize her face
Oh, What else could poor Oscar say, ‘cept “Mis-tak-en I-den-ti-tay!”
If I shot a loved one by mistake.. as an intruder.. just stick a fork in me....I’d be done. I couldn’t live with it. :-(
Prayers up...
Anyone familiar with South Africa knows that it is one crime-ridden hell hole....and white folks (Pistorius is white) in RSA better be armed.
I just hope the Black Racist Afrocracy in RSA does not try to make Pistorious a WhiteBoy example, if he truly mistook his GF for an intruder. I have seen enough of that here in my County
Prayers for both families. Truly tragic.
In Texas we actually have a code....it goes like this.
Before Sundown:
Hey, it’s me!
After Sundown:
HEY IT’S ME DON’T SHOOT! I AM COMING IN THE HOUSE! DID YOU HEAR ME AND UNDERSTAND IT IS ME AS I STATED EARLIER?
especially when they get into domestic violence and their volatile angry lover kicks or locks them out (it happened before with another girl at his same house)
sounds more like a Lifetime movie than a stunt gone wrong
He doesn’t have a leg to stand on.
‘South African Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been charged with murder after his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was shot dead at his home in Pretoria.
Police said Mr Pistorius was at a local police station, adding that a friend of his was killed at his home.
They confirmed a 26-year-old man would appear in court later. South African police do not usually name suspects until they appear in court.
Mr Pistorius, 26, was the first double amputee to run in the Olympics.
The precise circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear. Some reports said that Mr Pistorius may have mistaken his girlfriend for an intruder.
But police said they were “surprised” to hear reports that the deceased had been mistaken for a burglar.
They added that there had been previous incidents at the address and described them as “allegations of a domestic nature”. Police also said that they had been interviewing witnesses and that they would oppose any bail application.
Miss Steenkamp’s publicist confirmed to the BBC that the 29-year-old model had died.
“Everyone who knew her is in tears. She was an absolute angel, the sweetest, sweetest human being, a kind human being,” Sarit Tomlinson said.
The news that Mr Pistorius may have killed his girlfriend will shock the country as the athlete is regarded as one of South Africa’s national icons, reports the BBC’s Peter Biles from Cape Town.’

I know that, if I lived in a home where a somebody was a potential Barney Fife, I’d be making sure that he knew I was on my way home.
your statement has me stumped
I am not relationship expert, but I think shooting your girlfriend on Valentine’s Day is something of a faux pas.
