Senators Bernie Sanders and Barbara Boxer will outline the legislation on Thursday morning. They are even going to let that wacky 350.org activist Bill McKibben speak. Sheesh.
Billed as major and comprehensive legislation, it will have a carbon tax. Here is the statement from Sanders office (bold mine):
Sanders, Boxer to Introduce Major Climate Change Legislation
February 12, 2013
WASHINGTON, Feb 12 Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) will hold a news conference on Thursday, Feb. 14 to announce comprehensive legislation on climate change. Boxer is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. Sanders serves on the environment committee and also is a member of the Senate energy committee.
Under the legislation, a fee on carbon pollution emissions would fund historic investments in energy efficiency and sustainable energy technologies such as wind, solar, geothermal and biomass. The proposal also would provide rebates to consumers to offset any efforts by oil, coal or gas companies to raise prices.
Environment and consumer leaders set to participate include Bill McKibben, founder of 350.org; Mike Brune, executive director of Sierra Club; Tara McGuiness, executive director of the Center for American Progress Action Fund; Tyson Slocum, Public Citizens energy director; and David Bradley, National Community Action Foundation executive director.
Who:
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.)
Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.)
Bill McKibben, 350.org founder

And of course, the crown jewels of the Obama;s Beheading of America has been his pet environmental peojects in the guise of FAILED solar energy policies, Global Warming, Carbon Tax concoction brought to you by the Prince of the Planet, loveless algore, who recently sold his Current TV to "fellow broadcaster colleague" Al-Jazeera for $10 million intime enough to increase his carbon hoofs at no cost before the law is passed.
Obviously, Obama has a step-by-step program designed being built on the progress o the previous straegies success. So now thatit looks like ObamaCare will happen, hes ready to move unto much more controversial, confrontaional issues, one he hasn't been speaking much about but with his recent victories has the confidence now to have his lackeys trot out the most confrontational of his Destroy America plan with the Carbon Tax Law going before the Senate tomorrow. One of the main reasons thee Global Warming psychos were so popular and their findings ready to be believed as the Gospel of the Prophet of Meteorology is that in essence they were all liberal hating -Americans and if Global Warming were indeed reality, it would mean a huge upheaval in the rate in which countries have conventionally managed to grow GNP at a quickened pace and with the US consuming, what 40% of thee world's energy supply with only 5% of tjhe population, the liberals, including Obama deducted that if, when you got back the use of carbon usage and not supplement the balance with renewable energy, your country's GNP is bound to suffer. So liberals in the AGW induced brain that Global Warming is as result of carbon -burning then, then the US economic power woulldcertainly suffer. halleleujah. So despite countries opted out of the now impugned Kyoto Conference which was to quantify the carbon usage allowed by individual countries, the smarter countries opted out knowing what a sham and scam te AGW-folks are trying to pull over us. Yet Obama wants his Carbon Tax Law as it is central to his plan to make Kenya world power.
It’s better than cap and trade. I’d be open to it if we could eliminate the income tax in exchange.
DOA...
It will be a hard force to resist.
The average person under 30 likely received more instruction in school on “climate change” than the US Constitution....
Anything crafted by Sanders and Boxer is not good.
Of course not, and I’m sure they would never go for a deal like I described. I was just suggesting that Republicans should offer to adopt a carbon tax only in exchange for elimination or severe reductions in income and/or corporate taxes. That ought to blow the lid off the pretense of carbon tax backers than they’re really concerned about reducing emissions and not just raising more money for the government. I don’t think there’s really much harm in burning carbon, but there’s really nothing positive about it, so I’d rather discourage that than working, saving, investing, etc.
they are not going to eliminate the income tax
The plan is to destroy America.
The only way to avoid that is for every human to move to another planet (without the politicians who are seemingly concerned about this silliness).
Tax bills need to originate in the House...
You are suggesting that Republicans "negotiate" with Democrats on principles of physics, chemistry and human nature.
I never thought I would see such a thing on Free Republic.
I thought all Tax &/or Spend bills had to originate in the House.
“The only way to avoid that is for every human to move to another planet...”
All we have to do to defeat GW is send all politicians and their hot air to Mars...one way ticket. Start by loading up AF One, mount it on top of a Saturn V, and light the fuse.
Oh, you haven’t heard? The Constitution is no longer relevant.
good essay!
Your kind words are most appreciated. Thank you.
The Republicans could counter-offer if only to expose their hypocrisy. But I don’t see the democrats offering anything serious, just setting up the 2014 congressional election meme that Obama needs a democrat House to get anything done.
