Dorner manhunt: Charred human remains found in burned cabin
Los Angeles Times ^ | Feb. 13, 2013 | Andrew Blankstein & others

Charred human remains have been found in the burned cabin where police believe fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner was holed up after trading gunfire with law enforcement, authorities said.

If the body is identified to be Dorner’s, the standoff would end a weeklong manhunt for the ex-LAPD officer and Navy Reserve lieutenant who is believed to be responsible for a string of revenge-fueled shootings following his firing by the Los Angeles Police Department several years ago. Four people have died, allegedly at Dorner’s hands.

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

No creative thinking required.

Wow...6 officers and not a one of them thought, “hey guys, maybe we should rethink this.” Strange

Strange? Not really. Look up how Chernobyl happened. There were several experts running a test. They ratcheted the reactor into the danger zone and disaster one deliberate step at a time, each assuming the other knew what they were doing.

Do people normally fire at law enforcement officers? Is the question beyond your ability to comprehend?

I understand full well what you are saying and in the heat of a gun battle, if Doner were killed, I would understand and we wouldn't be having this discussion.

However, they had Doner trapped. He wasn't going anywhere. They could wait him out.

They didn't. They chose to take the law into their own hands and you are ok with that.

You don't understand how the legal system is supposed to work. You are for vigilantly justice. If back in the 1800's you would be a member of a lynch mod.

Oh, I understand fully.

it was reported that they weren't even sure if it was Doner.

Who cares or cared at that point whether it was Dorner or not??? It was someone who had stolen two vehicles, shot two of their officers, killing one, and was continuing to fire at them, and he refused to come out with his hands up.

Whether Dorner or not, he had to be neutralized.

I am not sure if “support” is really the right term. I think everyone agrees that what this guy did is horrible, and there is no excuse. Period.

That said, the cops were way, way over the top in their fervor to shoot this guy. So much so that innocents were harmed when they should not have been.

I think it’s interesting that its apparent that this guy was going to die long before anyone knew where he was.

Don’t mistake that for “rooting” for the guy.

I am not a big fan of most policemen. But I certainly don’t want them shot.

The obvious answer to the problem of dealing with violent offenders is take away LEO's weapons to insure justice is always dispensed in a court of law.

As in the case of Dorner, the violent offenders will surrender themselves to authorities. He did voluntarily, didn't he?

I missed the part where they were using basic tear gas first. Source please?

There is news film of a cannister of something, presumably tear gas, unloading its contents towards the front of the cabin.

Here’s just one case from your link.

Title: Dep. Steven Lanier

Type: Death or injury of a police officer.

State: NC

Description: On October 5, 2002, a sherif’s department SWAT team in Brunswick County, North Carolina raids the home of 25-year-old Paul Pelham and his roommate, Atari Thomas. The raid commences after police say an informant sold Pelham an ounce of crack cocaine two days ealier. The police, dressed in camouflage, forcibly enter the home. They say they announced themselves, though neighbors would testify for Mr. Pelham at trial that they heard no announcement. Pelham is awoken late at night to the sound of flashbang grenades, reaches for his gun, and shoots at what he says he thought were intruders. Pelham shoots and wounds Dep. Steven Lanier. One bullet hits the officer in the back, another hits him in the hand. Other officers then open fire on Pelham, shooting him 17 times. Pelham says he didn’t know the raiding officers were police until after he was shot. Pelham is eventually charged and convicted of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury, three counts of assault with a firearm, and drug charges. He is acquitted of first-degree attempted murder and the charge of selling crack to an informant, the charge that brought the raid. Pelham is sentenced to 19 to 26 years in prison. Deputy Lanier suffers permanent disability from his injury, and can no longer serve on the SWAT team. Sources: Millard K. Ives, “Jury Finds Winnabow Man Guilty in Assault on Officer,” Wilmington Morning Star, October 30, 2002. State of North Carolina v. Pellham, No. COA03-636, Filed: 4 May 2004.

Date: Oct 5, 2002

He was trapped in a cabin!!!

BS -- the cabin hqad multiple doors and windows. There was no one blocking those doors and windows. He could have come out of them with his hands up at any time, fire or no fire -- but he didn't.

Well he might have done that.

Or he may have continued to sit inside, shooting, maybe eventually killing someone else. (Can you imagine what the critics would be saying about police tactics then? Let alone the family of the newly dead person)

OR he might have come out firing.

OR he might have stayed up there for weeks, tying up hundreds of LEOs.

Or he might have escaped.

Do you have any evidence that he didn’t blah blah blah.

The US Constitution.

I can’t find the part where citizens have to prove what they DIDN’T do.

However, they had Doner trapped. He wasn't going anywhere. They could wait him out.

Wasn't it reported earlier that Dorner was trapped? Didn't he kill another LEO? He had plenty of time to surrender and it was quite apparent that he had no intention of a peaceful resolution.

When you fire at an LEO, you are in essence asking to be killed.

You don't understand how the legal system is supposed to work

I understand that when a person fires at uniformed police officers they are displaying a total disregard for their own life. Why would a person open fire on uniformed police officers knowing full well he is surrounded and helicopters are flying overhead? Please address the questions posed.....for a change.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe either of you equate "cop hater" with murderer.

Silence....it's telling.

"if you weren’t a Dorner, they wouldn’t be shooting at you in the first place, now would they?"

Wrong. Instead of one large 30-ish black male in a grey Nissan, you could be two small aged Hispanic females in a blue Toyota.

Yep! So instead, he was burned alive.

You missed the part where the police weren't 100% sure that the person they were cremating was even Dorner...

But what does that matter?! The media said he was a bad guy so he is found guilty by the media (and crooked LA cops) and so it is. I guess we will never ever get Dorner's side of the story though because he was denied his due process rights afforded him.

Heck, if it was him, he may have killed himself and the police wouldn't have had to burn the cabin down.

Guns a blazin! Lynch em HIGH!

For the record, I think the guy was a total psychopath and a murderer but he still deserved his day in court...
